The Saint Xavier Women’s soccer team took on No.19 Olivet Nazarene University at their home turf, Deaton Field, on a rainy Wednesday evening on Oct. 11.

SXU were held to a 1-0 loss which moved their overall record on the season to 4 wins, 3 draws, and 3 losses. In terms of conference they stand with 2 wins, 3 draws, and 1 loss.

ONU scored the lone goal right before the half at the 44th minute of action.  Freshman Goalkeeper Nataile Dybas just could not get to it as it went into the back of the net.

She had 73 minutes of action before being subbed off for Junior goalkeeper Eden Suda for 17 minutes of play.

With her not keeping a clean sheet, her record in goal moves to 3-2-2 this season.

In the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, Saint Xavier dropped to 6th place with 7 points and are looking to reach the top with 5 games remaining in conference.

With SXU not getting the ball in the back of the net, this was just their second time this season that they ended the game scoreless.

Saint Xavier came out strong out the gate, putting the pressure on the ONU defense and goalkeeper. Senior midfielder Neida Ocampo took 3 shots to begin the game, and two of them were on target that had to be saved by the keeper.

They had chances to be up on ONU pretty early but could not finish those chances.

Ocampo led the way with a total of five shots as 3 of them were on target.

Sophomore midfielder Hailey Henry also had a pair of attempts, but could not find the ball in the net.

Freshman forward Alex Jonaitis had one shot on goal, along with Junior Forward Esmeralda Diaz, which were saved by the ONU goalkeeper.

SXU as a team had 12 shots and 5 on target as ONU had 11 but 2 shots on target throughout the 90 minutes.

After ONU’s goal, they only recorded one more shot on goal.

Sophomore midfielder Hope Lewis was given a yellow card at the 42 minute of the game.

It was a tough game for Saint Xavier to lose as they kept gaining on ONU, but in the end they could not find the equalizer.

Moving on to this past weekend’s event, SXU clashed against Holy Cross away from home in Notre Dame, Ind. on Saturday, Oct. 14.

Saint Xavier came away with a 2-0 victory, bouncing back from their previous 2 defeats.

The goals were scored by Sophomore midfielder Veronica Davila at the 51st minute of the game and by Jonaitis at the 84th minute of the game to secure a huge win.

Diaz assisted Davila for the goal that broke the deadlock.

This is their 3rd win in conference; they now hold an overall record of 5 wins, 3 draws, and 3 losses. In conference they moved up to 3 wins, 3 draws, and 1 defeat.

SXU had numerous opportunities to score more than 2 goals as they had 12 total shots and 9 shots that went to goal.

Jonaitis herself registered 4 shots with 3 of them on target in her 83 minutes of action.

Natalie Dybass came up with a clean sheet in 90 minutes of play as she had 4 saves to keep her goal to 0.  The defense did a good job of keeping the ball out.

Saint Xavier wanted to get back on winning ways and certainly did it against Holy Cross and they hope to win as they close the season.

SXU are looking for 3 more points as their next game is Tuesday, Oct. 17 at home versus Governors State University. Kickoff is scheduled to start at 12:00 pm.
