The money that the SXU Class of 2014 raises for the class gift will go towards funding a new walkway connecting the west side of Morris Hall with the sidewalk in the quad. This has already been formed into a well-beaten path in the Schmitt Quad, so it will be nice to have an actual concrete pathway for students to utilize instead.

Since 2001, each graduating class of SXU has contributed a class gift. These gifts have included a textbook scholarship, the restoration of the Mercy Bell, and enhancements to classroom technology, as well as campus safety and the emergency alert system, just to name a few.
The class gift tradition continues today because it is a great way for students who are thankful for the education and experiences that they have received at Saint Xavier to pay it forward for both current and future students.

Each year a class gift committee is assembled to represent the graduating class. Assistant Director for Annual Giving, Marie Konieczny, explains that when gathering this group of students they often reach out to staff and faculty asking which students they believe would be interested in participating or would be a good fit for the committee. From there students are contacted and those who agree to take part form the committee.

Once a committee is created the group gathers and brainstorms several different possible projects for the class gift. Then they take a vote for which project will be the class gift and then have it approved by the University.

The Class of 2014 walkway would give students easier access to Morris Hall from the Warde Academic Center. Students would also find it easier to reach certain parking lots, have a more convenient walk to class, grab Starbucks, or visit friends on the Schmitt Quad.

Also, the pathway will be marked in honor of the Class of 2014 so that all students who use the pathway will know that it was created through the support of this group of graduating students.

When asked her thoughts on the class gift tradition Ms. Konieczny stated that, “A class gift is a great way for students to leave their mark on campus when they’re graduating as well as help them transition into the role of alumnus/a.”

Every donation that is made will be matched dollar for dollar by SXU Trustee Trish Morris ’83 and her husband Jim, up to $6,000. Dr. and Mr. Morris have been helping the class gift in this way since it began in 2001 and exemplify the role of proud Saint Xavier supporters.
All gifts are important and impactful. Whether it is $10, $20, $50 or more, your contribution can help make a lasting change to Saint Xavier University.

Those students who donate $10 or more to the class gift fund will be entered into a drawing for an extra graduation ticket.

There are several ways that people can make donations to the class gift.

They can go to www.sxu.edu, search the keyword class gift, and then click on the link to make your gift.

Students can also donate, with cash, check, or credit during Regalia Distribution Day on April 10 at the Class Gift table. Students who make a gift that day of $20 or more will receive a SXU padfolio.

Do not forget to leave your mark on Saint Xavier by making a donation to the class gift fund!
