SXU will be celebrating the annual celebration of Mission Day on March 27th, 2019.
The day “celebrating 173 years of quality education and dedicated service to our very deserving and worthy students” will be celebrated campus wide.
The major event to take place will be the Mission Day Award Ceremony, where “A congratulatory reception will follow.” according to sxu.edu.
Staff, students and faculty are encouraged and invited to attend the festivities that surround We Are SXU Day.
Organized by the Office of Mission and Heritage, We Are SXU Day celebrates “the University’s educational mission and focuses on one of the key goals of a Saint Xavier education — “to educate men and women … to serve wisely and compassionately in support of human dignity and the common good.”
This year, 5 members of the SXU community will be honored for their resolve and strive to embody “… the University’s core values and Catholic/ Mercy mission.”
The Saint Xavier University Award for Faculty Mission and Service: Zepure Samawi, Ph.D., Associate Dean for Undergraduate Nursing Programs, Professor, Fulbright Scholar. Following suit, the Sister Isidore Perrigo, R.S.M., Staff Mission Award will be awarded to : Mary Rita Insley ‘84, Coordinator, Mercy Ministry Center, as well as Jodi O’Toole, Student Records Clerk, Records and Advising. Mother Paulita Morris, R.S.M., Student Mission Award will be distributed to: Bryson Ezra Doyle ‘19, Sociology Major, and Theresa Ward ‘19, Religious Studies Major.
The Award Ceremony will not be the only event taking place.
Students will also be able to join in games, music, and a guest appearance of Champ.
These festivities will take place at the SXU Diner.
SXU is encouraging 3 ways to participate in We Are SXU Days: “making a gift, spreading the word and showing your pride!”
Those who are willing and able can make a donation to the Saint Xavier Fund, which “enhances every aspect of the University.”
These aspects include, but are not limited to: “Financial aid…, Academic support services and programs, Student life and spiritual life, Athletics and student organizations,” and “Campus buildings and facilities”. SXU also encourages the community to use #WeAreSXU on social media posts with regards to SXU day.
People looking to serve as volunteers are also being sought out to manage communications for We Are SXU Day. SXU Cougars are welcome to don their school colored attire and post their days on social media.
The Mission Day Award Ceremony will take place in the Butler Reception Room of the Warde Academic Center beginning at 3:30. SXU Diner festivities will take place between 11am and 3:30 p.m.
