The Cougars won in a nail biter against Roosevelt University 21-20 on Saturday, Oct. 1. Moving to 3-2 on their season.

Throughout the game, the offense struggled against the stout Roosevelt defense. The Cougars scored twice in the second quarter to be up 14-0 at the end of the half. Both scores came from Junior Running back, Matthew Chavers III. 

In the same quarter the Cougars forced a turnover with an interception in the endzone by Junior Defensive Back, Kevin Countryman.

In the second half, Roosevelt responded with two touchdown passes from their Quarterback, Luke Wilson to Wide Receiver, Alex Tran, to go up 14-14 by the end of the third quarter. 

In the fourth quarter, Roosevelt’s Running Back, Tyler Tenner, scored a rushing touchdown from two yards out with just under 5 minutes to play. 

With under 2 minutes left in the fourth quarter, the offense came up with a big drive from the help of Running Back, Mario Price, and Junior Wide Receiver, Kyle Quinn. 

This set up a pass from Junior Quarterback, Stuart Ross, to Junior Wide Receiver, Brandt Hixon, to take the lead 21-20.

With a sack from Senior, Defensive Lineman Payton Campbell, With a forced fumble by Freshman Linebacker, Terry Elias, the Cougars claimed another victory.

The Cougars clinched Coach Feminis’ 200th win of his career.

SXU takes on Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais next Saturday, October 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 12p.
