Super Bowl 2020: Touchdown for Trailers & TV Spots

It was another successful year for clever commercials, smart marketing, and action-packed movie trailers. Super Bowl LIV kicked off with a “breathless” look at Top Gun: Maverick.

After more than thirty years since the first installment of the franchise, Tom Cruise is seen reprising his role as Lt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. The film is slated to hit theaters June 26, 2020.

It was followed shortly after with a final look at Disney’s Mulan with the final trailer. It was previously reported that the live-action remake would not be a musical such as the original. The remake will rather include instrumental versions of the originally sung music.

When asked about the live-action remake being different than its predecessor, accounting major Marc Tolentino, said: “I’m pretty much upset that this new movie won’t honor what the original one did. I read that it wasn’t going to include the character Mushu either. Which I don’t get because Mushu was instrumental in the first one so I don’t know how it would work without him.”

Fans of the original Mulan might have a difficult time adapting  to these changes when the film hits theaters on March 27, 2020.

The trailer for F9, another high-speed action thriller, was also dropped during the game on Sunday. The ninth installment of “The Fast Saga” sees the return of the original cast such as: Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Jordana Brewster, and Ludacris.

While Dwayne Johnson is nowhere to be seen in F9, John Cena (newcomer to the series) is taking a front seat to  “The Fast Saga”. As unveiled in the first official trailer for the film, John Cena will be joining the franchise as Dominic Toretto’s brother.

Surprisingly, Sung Kang is back from the dead as Han! Han was previously thought to have been killed earlier in the franchise. Now fans are wondering how and why he is back. All questions will be answered when the film hits theaters on May 22, 2020.

One of the most interesting moves by Disney and Marvel was the release of a Black Widow TV spot and, on top of that, a first look at the much-anticipated original Disney series Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, and Loki.

These spin-off shows focusing on popular characters are a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which began with Iron Man in 2008.

The Black Widow “Big Game TV spot” was also special because it gave fans and audiences a look into Marvel’s future post Avengers: Endgame even though the film takes place years before the epic finale. The Marvel Disney+ series are expected to drop sometime this year and next year. If you need your Marvel fix before then, Black Widow hits theaters May 1, 2020.

All these trailers and TV spots look very promising, but this article cannot go by without giving an honorable mention to Minions: The Rise of Gru. This animated feature is a sequel to 2015’s Minions and a prequel to the popular Despicable Me.

This year’s Super Bowl did not disappoint in delivering a show for non-football fans.
