On Thursday, May 1, the Department of Student Media will host the first ever Lights Out! event. It will be a concert on the Quad stating at 7 p.m. and ending at 9 p.m. This event was planned by Bridget Goedke and Lauren Voytal after they came up with the idea in March 2014, according to Goedke. There will be student performances, taste testings and a bonfire at Lights Out!

Most of the preformers will be students that have participated at Mercy Students for Peace and Justice’s Open Mic events. The lineup for Lights Out! includes Amanda Kalas, Joe Williams, Emily Caliendo, Bobby McGrealm, Max Rodriguez, Casey Papp Jamel Williams, and local band Roger This. Starbucks has new drinks for this summer and will be offering samples of those drinks during the event, including new flavors of their popular “refreshers”, according to Goedke.

In addition, there will also a bonfire, but students should also bring blankets to lay on and keep warm. The temperature should be in the mid 50s on Thursday night. The Saint Xavier University Improv Club will also preform skits in between musical performances. Goedke said Lights Out! is important because it showcases Saint Xavier University students and local talent and also because this is the first event the Department of Student Media has sponsored in a while. If successful, Goedke hopes it will become an annual celebration.

Students in need of any more information should contact Lauren Voytal at voytal.l01@mymail.sxu.edu.
