Saint Xavier University’s Counseling Center promotes a series  of events to help students decrease the stress they are under before finals each semester. This week is known as Stress-Less week.

Stress-Less week starts on December 3rd and ends December 6th. This week set aside as a way for students to take a break from studying for finals and to focus on taking time for themselves.

On Monday, December 3rd, free chair massages and labyrinth will be offered in Butler Reception Room from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. as a way for students to recenter.

Students can receive a free chair massage and walk through the meditative path on the labyrinth. They can also relax with some tea, while they trace a Celtic plate or listening to a guided meditation.

On Tuesday, December 4th, students can go to the Wiseman Student Lounge from 10 to 11:30 a.m. to see therapy dogs.

“I love the therapy dogs. Especially Carson, because he looks like my dogs I have at home but mixed. I think it’s a wholesome and healthy way to unwind. Animals make everyone happy. Even if I’m stressed about finals, at least there’s something I can look forward to,” says student Celeste Montenegro.

The licensed therapy dog, Lucky the Husky, will be there with some of his pals. They are coming to comfort and spread happiness to students during the stressful time of studying for finals. This will be the dogs last visit for this semester.

On Wednesday, December 5th, students and their friends can let loose in the Wiseman Student Lounge from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the games day.

During the game day, students and their friends can enjoy the games Life and Monopoly. Students can also have fun with Play-Doh and perler beads. There will  be chess, checkers, playing cards, coloring for adults, and hot chocolate available.

On Thursday, December 6th, there will be an ice cream sundae bar from Noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Counseling Center.

There will be a variety of  toppings for the make-your-own sundae bar.it will be a great opportunity  for students to take a break from studying and treat themselves to something sweet.

“Ice cream is very delicious and is a huge stress reliever. I am looking forward to it because it will give me a chance to relax from studying while enjoying something I love,” stated student Anthony Hood.

Finals week and the week leading up to finals can be very taxing on students. Stress-Less week is an opportunity for students to take a break from working their brains,  take some time to relax, and enjoy themselves with friends through calming activities.

When talking about Stress-Less week, student Alexus Woods said, “It encourages students to deal with their stress more openly and shows them that Saint Xavier University actually cares about its students’ mental health and not solely the academics.”

These events are offered as relaxing activities to help the students feel calm and at their best as they finish up with their classwork and  prepare to take finals.

Additionally, during finals week the SXU Diner will be offering $1.00 16 oz. coffee effective Monday, December 10th to Friday December 14th.
