The Saint Xavier University women’s basketball team went up against Cardinal Stritch University on Wednesday, February 8 at Panella court in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
This ended their four game road trip, ending on a high note as the Cougars came away with an 82-46 victory.
SXU was 3-1 on their road trip and with this win, their record now stands at 19-7.
Every win is key as SXU looks to get the number one seed in their conference standings.
Currently the Cougars stand in fourth place and look to end the season strong.
Senior guard Alyssa Streeter was the star of the game. She helped SXU collect the win by earning 28 points.
She shot 9-13 from the floor and connected on six three pointers, leaving her with a shooting percentage of .692.
Senior forward Claire Austin finished the game with a stat line of nine points, five assists, two blocks, and 10 rebounds which was the most on the team.
Austin had an all around fantastic game by providing buckets and dishing out assists to her teammates.
Sophomore center Alyssa Crenshaw also contributed, scoring eight points, nine rebounds, two blocks, two steals, and two assists.
Sophomore guard Jenna Hernandez and Freshmen guard Jaidn Green did an excellent job of putting up points off the bench.
Hernandez ended with nine points on three for six shooting from downtown and three rebounds.
Green closed the game with seven points and three steals.
Aaliyahna Derrell showed her play making ability as the point guard by distributing five dimes and contributing five rebounds and three points.
As a team, SXU shot 31-71 on the night (43.7%).
Saint Xavier put together up 10 from beyond the arc on 23 tries, which makes it their season-high (43.5).
The Cougars continued to display very solid defense as they forced Cardinal Stritch to 24 turnovers.
SXU was also active on defense with 13 steals.
The first quarter was a tight one as both teams went back and forth with each other on the court. Both teams had seventeen points at the end of the first.
Cardinal Stritch hit a 3-pointer at the end of the quarter to beat the buzzer and square it all up.
SXU’s second-quarter performance set the tempo for the rest of the night, they had a great game on both sides of the court.
The dominating second included conceded just eight points to their own 23 points.
Saint Xavier’s great defense and a good running offense that has good ball movement and great defense is the reason why they are in the position they are in.
The Cougars will finish the regular season in Bourbonnais, Illinois, taking on Olivet Nazarene University.
Tip off is scheduled for 1pm.
