Over the past few weeks, I have been reading and hearing about the hate Asian communities have been dealing with all over the US.
Sadly, a week ago, in San Francisco a 84th year old grandpa was attacked and died. Many people claim it was a hate crime.
Another 64 year old Vietnamese grandmother was assaulted in San Jose and the same day another grandpa was attacked on the Manhattan subway. The grandpa was slashed across the face.
A group of children were stabbed at a grocery store because of COVID-19 and a woman was set on fire and thrown acid on.
The list goes on. The only reason this topic is getting attention is because the Asian community has tried to get all this information out to the public.
Making a hashtag all over social media. #stopasianhate Specially Tik-tok.
The disappointing reality is that the streaming media has not brought the attention required to such attacks.
Many Asian communities are calling out the media outlets to bring more awareness of the situation and to showcase the situation.
These crimes are not isolated incidents. Since Covid-19 started, I still recall people joking about Asians being the cause of the pandemic.
Ever since COVID-19 began, I have heard more and more hate towards the Asian community. I do believe it has to do with sinophobia. Our past government fed people into thinking it was the right thing to blame an entire community for a situation that does not have to do with race.
It is not the Asian community’s fault our past president was incompetent and did not take action when it was required. As we can see, Asian countries and other countries took action as soon as possible.
Most countries are back to normal, while the US is still dealing with people dying everyday. Who is really responsible and should be blamed for? Our leaders!
The entire pandemic response team was disbanded under former president Trump. Yet, evil people attack innocent civilians.
Many people claim that this is not racism. Trying to blame an entire race of an universal problem is not racist ?
It is illogical. People still believe racism doesn’t exist. We see it everyday when Asian Americans are attacked and made fun of . We see it when African Americans experience police brutality. We see it when Hispanics are attacked and robbed.
The end goal is to fight against oppression and white supremacy that causes these types of issues in the first place.
Enough is enough! As a community we need to come together to put an end to this ridiculous situation.
We need to do better and we could do better if we support our neighbors in need. #stopasianhate
