Spoilers for The Mandalorian’s Chapter 10 “The Passenger”
When The Mandalorian debuted on the Disney+ streaming service last year, the internet blew up with adoration and memes of Baby Yoda. It was very difficult not to come across a Baby Yoda meme at least 10 times a day. Disney was definitely not prepared for the Baby Yoda (or as they have officially named him, “the Child”) craze that followed after the premiere of the first couple of episodes. Merchandise of the Child was quickly put into production to meet demands by Christmas time.
A year later after the Child craze began, Star Wars and Disney have had more than enough time to meet market demands, and satisfy fans. If by any chance you’re a “Baby Yoda stan”, the second episode of season two delivers!
Following the reactions from last year, we all knew we would get much more of a spotlight on the Child this season. However the question was: “When and how much?” Season two of The Mandalorian has wasted no time in giving the people what they clamored for. The series’ tenth episode, “The Passenger” delivers a ridiculous adventure with the Child in the front seat.
“The Passenger” was fine; it didn’t really seem to have a point, which is okay with me. Nothing of importance happened, but in the long run, episodes such as this one have a purpose. Perhaps there was some sort of groundwork being laid for the finale. I often criticize television series for not taking a moment to breathe in between loaded episodes. The Mandalorian decided to have an episode center around their prized child–a right they have certainly earned.
Social media reactions haven’t been very kind to this episode. Some Instagram users calling it, “The show’s worst episode so far” all because it was “filler”. I wouldn’t even call this episode filler, just because there isn’t a big revelation, or major fight sequence, doesn’t mean this episode is useless. Mando faces a stump in the road. He can’t travel through hyperspace because it’ll kill the passenger’s spawn. He warns that it’ll be a long, hazardous journey traveling to their destination without the use of lightspeed. As we’ve seen in the opening, he’s highly sought after. As his warnings come true, he is chased down by New Republic pilots and crash lands into a nearby spider nest. As it is true in life, one often never goes from “Point A” to “Point B” without some type of hassle, that’s exactly what happens in this episode.
A major plus to this episode was the character of the Child and all the trouble he was up to. Light-hearted and comedic moments absolutely invaded this episode. From the Child eating the passenger’s spawn, to stumbling upon a nest of spider eggs and accidentally awakening them. “The Passenger” is the most humorous episode of The Mandalorian yet.
Although there hasn’t been any teases of what the next episode will bring, I’m sure we’ll get back on track on locating the Mandalorian that will help Mando on his quest.
