Saint Xavier Sports Homecoming Week Preview

It’s that time of year again, that’s right, it’s Homecoming Week! While everyone on campus is celebrating this festive time of year, the numerous SXU sports programs are going to be joining in on the excitement.

The action kicks off on September 24th, when the SXU women’s volleyball team travels to Joliet to play the St. Francis (IL) Fighting Saints. The Cougars will enter the game with a 3-8 record, while the Fighting Saints will enter the game with a 10-8 record. The last time these two teams squared off was in 2018, when the Cougars beat the Fighting Saints in three straight sets. In fact, the Cougars have beaten St. Francis (IL) two times in a row. Let’s hope they can make it three in Joliet on Tuesday!

Cougars fans will get to see their first home action on Wednesday September 25th, when both the men’s and women’s soccer teams play the Saint Ambrose Bees at Deaton Field. The women’s game starts at 5:30 PM, while the men’s game starts at 8:00 PM.

On the men’s side, the Cougars will enter play with a 2-3-1 record, while the Bees will enter with a 3-3-1 record. These two teams last played each other in 2018, when they tied 2-2 after two overtimes.

Meanwhile, on the women’s side, the Cougars will enter play with a 0-5-1 record, while the Bees will enter with a 2-3-1 record. The last time these two teams played each other was in 2018, when the Bees won 3-1.

The SXU women’s soccer team then travels to South Bend, Indiana to play the IU-South Bend Titans. The Titans will enter this game with a 0-4 record. These two teams have never played each other before. If you can make it out to South Bend to support the Cougars, the game starts at 5:00 PM.

Finally, Homecoming Week wraps up on September 28th, when the SXU football team plays the Concordia Cardinals at Deaton Field. The Cardinals will enter the game with a 3-0 record, while the Cougars will enter it with a 1-1 record.

To make things even more interesting, SXU will enter ranked as the fifth best team in the NAIA, while the Cardinals will enter ranked as the sixth best team in the NAIA. These two teams last played each other in 2016, when the Cougars beat the Cardinals in a close 25-21 match.

The game starts at 1:00 PM and if you cannot make it out to Deaton Field, you can always listen to the game by tuning in to WXAV, 88.3 FM or stream  on wxav.com.

It is going to be a very exciting Homecoming Week, with nearly all  SXU athletic teams participating in it. It begins with an exciting volleyball game, peaks with a doubleheader soccer game at Deaton Field, and concludes with what’s sure to be a hard fought football game on Saturday. The Saint Xavier community will have no shortage of excitement this Homecoming Week.
