On March 20, the Saint Xavier Cougars were matched up against Aquinas College for their first set of games since March 12.
The games against Aquinas were the last non-conference matchup of the season for the Cougars.
Game one started out rough for the Cougars, the Saints drew a leadoff walk in their half of the inning, and then it was downhill from that point forward.
Back-to-back walks followed by back-to-back doubles quickly put Aquinas up 3-0, and Julianne Claas was pulled without recording an out.
Unfortunately, the Saints didn’t stop scoring there. They scored three more runs, on two singles before the inning was over.
The rest of the game was more or less a repeat of the first inning for the Cougars, only recording two hits in the last inning of play. Aquinas scored three more runs, one in the third and two in the fourth.
SXU looked to quickly forget the two-hit shutout and moved on to the second game of the day.
Right fielder— Kyla Kissee— started the onslaught of offense in game two with a home run to left field in the second inning. Although the Saints bit back and scored two runs of their own in the second inning.
In the third, Brittany Schultz crushed a two-run homer to give the Cougars the lead again. Yet the lead didn’t last long after Aquinas hit back-to-back home runs.
The Cougars scored five runs in the last four innings and led 8-4 going into the bottom of the seventh.
Unfortunately, the Saints battled back in their last at-bats, scoring five runs in their comeback win to complete the double header sweep against the Cougars.
Saint Xavier’s next scheduled games are for April 1, against Olivet Nazarene University. The first game is slated for a 3pm start.
