Snyder Cut Justice League’: Review, Joker Redemption, and More!

Behold, the long anticipated Snyder Cut Justice League has finally arrived. Four hours seems intimidating, but as a fellow movie/tv show fanatic, it’s no problem! It’s convenient to watch at home where you can pause when needed, opposed to being in theaters.

‘Snyder Cut’ gives us a glimpse into various characters that were going to have their story explored individually in the Snyderverse—Zack Snyder’s DC universe. Unfortunately, WarnerBros addressed that they don’t want to continue the Snyderverse. Some of these characters will still get their solo movie, just not relative to the Snyderverse.

Right now, #RestoreTheSnyderverse is trending on Twitter to pursue Snyder’s version of the DC universe. The movies canceled are listed in this article: Every Canceled DCEU Movie Set Up In Zack Snyder’s Justice League

WarnerBros seems as if they don’t know what they’re doing, since they’re impatient and money-hungry. This fellow on Quora summarized the disaster of WarnerBros’ timeline of the DCEU franchise quite well.

Feel free to also check out this article, ‘What Ben Affleck’s Solo Batman Movie Was About (Snyder Cut Setup)’ and this article explaining what is going to happen still after Snyder Cut, ‘What WB’s Snyderverse Cancellation Means For Justice League 2’.

While I won’t outright explain spoilers, I will link videos to certain scenes! Watch if you want spoilers for context if you haven’t watched the film.

I didn’t have set expectations for the Snyder Cut, but there are a few events I thought we’d see more of. For instance, I thought we’d get to see at least half of the film of Gotham City in ruins, and Joker having a bigger extensive role. I also thought we’d see Darkseid join the fight, but the cliffhanger was understandable.

Unless WarnerBros changes their mind, we won’t be getting a sequel to see (possibly) a battle in an apocalyptic future. If Justice League 2 did happen, it would’ve also been DCEU’s “Endgame”.  The scene that features Joker working with Batman in the dark future—similar parallel to Marvel’s “Endgame” sequel—is the most we get out of it, and it’s my favorite scene from the film.

Personally, I believe Jared Leto’s ‘Joker’ performance was justified. As I wrote about in my previous article, I pondered if Leto’s ‘Joker’ would be redeemed, and I think it was! The dialogue for Joker was accurately Joker-esque, and the costume and makeup was much better.

We already saw his costume and makeup in teasers and the trailer, but I wanted to emphasize that it stood out in the film itself.

While his appearance was short, sometimes all it takes is a short moment to redeem oneself, and he did, thanks to Snyder for shooting and adding the scene in during this pandemic. While at it, here’s an article on ‘How Zack Snyder’s Justice League Redeems Every Character’.

Might I say, Steppenwolf’s new armor was rad. While I didn’t like him, he still looked badass.

Moreover, to a favorite character of mine, Cyborg’s plot had me in tears. The way he was before he became Cyborg, the moment he reached his arm over his mother when he saw the car incoming, and even the process of his father doing what he can to keep him alive.

Not to mention, his father’s death paralleled Peter Parker fading in Avengers: Infinity War. This is just one of many ways Justice League 2 would’ve been the parallel film to Marvel’s Endgame.

Now to my other favorite character, my mom repeatedly noted how much she loved Wonder Woman (Diana Prince), and how she gets giddy watching her fight. We both cannot stress enough how much we love Wonder Woman. I personally don’t like cheesiness (Wonder Woman’s dialogue is cheesy sometimes), but she’s one of my favorite DC characters in the live-action universe.

Now, I understand there are fans—Johnny Depp supporters—who were upset by Amber Heard’s appearance as Mera (see this article debunking the rumor that she was fired from Aquaman 2), but it is what it is. I just hope they are grateful for the film, considering the situations and decision-making having to do with Snyder’s Cut.

All the new-takes, retakes, and so on, would’ve prolonged the release even further, especially when there’s not a ton of leeway during a Pandemic if he were to recast her for a new actress to still feature Mera. Mera is an important side character—with her connection to Aquaman in this film—so as I said, it is what it is. Perhaps she will (or won’t) get fired or leave the DCEU in the future.

While I never had interest in Batman, he kind of grew on me in this film. Ben Affleck is probably my third or second favorite portrayal of Batman/Bruce Wayne. It’s unfortunate that Affleck won’t have a solo Batman movie anymore, but I hope the Robert Pattinson version is as promising as its trailer.

As for the ending, even though we don’t get to see DarkSeid come to Gotham, it was satisfying. I feel it was left up to interpretation, especially with the multiple glimpses into the future of a universe where Gotham is in ruins and Superman was the enemy. We may not have gotten to see that future play out, but it was just enough given to us for a suitable ending for Justice League.

Overall, it’s annoying that the DCEU is constantly rebooting and having problems in the film industry of live-action production, which is why they are behind, considering Marvel is ahead, but hopefully they develop stability soon. There is so much potential for the Snyderverse.

On ScreenRant in ‘The Snyder Cut Proves WB Killed Their Best Chance to Compete With Marvel’, Stephen M. Colbert wrote, “Warner Bros. canceled plans for Zack Snyder’s epic Justice League trilogy after a rocky start, but the Snyder Cut proves patience would have paid off.”

WarnerBros was not impressed with Snyder’s version, as according to this article, which makes sense to why they fired him a while back. Even though there won’t be a sequel to the movie, where maybe there’d be room to explore that doomed future, I still appreciate the four hour-long movie. By the way, Snyder Cut is also in black and white in Justice is Gray.
