Showin’ Love for Grouplove

nprORGLast Tuesday, on the 17th, Grouplove released their second album, “Spreading Rumours”.
Never heard of Grouplove before? Well, if you have ever listened to the radio, you have heard their song “Tongue Tied”. That song was and still is a staple on top 40 stations, as well as one “alternative” station in Chicago. (I use the term alternative loosely.) However, that is beside the point. We are here to talk about Grouplove’s new album.
The album overall is great. It stays true to the sound of the first album, so while there is no complete reinvention of them, it is alright. I mean, they have only made one other album, let’s not rush them.

The album starts off with the slow beginning of “I’m With You”. But even the first song quickens the tempo as it goes on. Slowly the song builds to a catchy beat that you cannot help but want to dance to.

The first song begins with a soft keyboard playing. The tempo quickens with every measure and soon it turns into a full-fledged catchy beat. As your toe starts to tap and really get into the song, the music changes quickly and the vocals kick in. They are soft against the catchy background music, but not for long. The chorus kicks in and the party really gets turned up. Throughout the rest of the song, the sound goes between soft and hard all the way until the end.

They could not have picked a better song to kick off their album. It showcases their talent and range perfectly. The band can rock a song with soft vocals against fast beats, they can go can the other way, they can mix it up, whatever you can imagine, these guys are probably going to smash it.

Overall, the album is pretty much all upbeat. One song on the album, “Ways To Go”, is already a hit and there are many, many more hits on this album.

With a 13-track album, you would think there would certainly be some skippable songs on there. However, there is not a single song I would skip on here. Every song is unique, infectious, and in a perfect world, would be an instant hit.

Oh wait, did I say 13-tracks? These guys were nice enough to throw in 3 more bonus tracks. All of them are excellent and very different from each other. “Beans On Pizza” is most definitely my favorite. Once you listen to it, you will understand why.
If you have any sort of taste in music, you need to go buy Grouplove’s album, “Spreading Rumours”, IMMEDIATELY! Or just go listen to it on Spotify for free. Either way, you cannot miss out on this insane album.
