On Thursday, November 10, Sony released the new PlayStation 4 Pro. This version of the PlayStation 4 is supposed to give console gamers a more powerful machine to experience a new way of gaming. Microsoft will also be doing this with Xbox One during the 2017 holiday season with Project Scorpio.
The first and most prominent feature of the PS4 Pro is the ability to game in 4K. 4K resolution is the highest quality for an image to be put on a TV screen. 4K has recently started to become popular and more people are starting to use 4K TVs. To adapt to this, Sony made the Pro to support 4K TVs and resolution. The downside to this is that gamers would need to spend more money to get a TV that could handle this resolution.
However, there have been reports of games having framerate issues and lagging with the new console. Otherwise, games look beautiful in 4K.
Despite having a new design and new hardware specs, the price did not shoot up. Gamers can buy the PlayStation 4 Pro for only $399.99, which was the price of the original PS4. A reasonable price for a brand-new way to game.
The Pro also has way more hard drive space than the original PS4. The original had only 500 gigabytes of storage. There were models floating around that had one terabyte of storage, a whole 1000 gigabytes, but they were not available at launch. Now, you can buy the PS4 Pro which has one terabyte of storage. Gamers aren’t restricted to only 500GB of storage, which shouldn’t take long to fill up for the regular hardcore player.
So, should you get the PS4 Pro? If you wish to own a PS4 and do not have one yet, buy the Pro. If you want to game in 4K and you have a TV to support that experience, buy it. But, if you don’t have a 4K TV or if you already have a PS4, this console isn’t for you. I’d say stick to your original PS4. I know I am. Well, I don’t have a 4K TV either.
