Shannon Center to Host Health Fair

On Friday, March 22nd, the Shannon Center will be hosting its 10th Annual Health Fair from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Events at the fair will include free screenings and massages, raffles, scavenger hunts, children’s activities, and cooking demonstrations.

There will also be a free blood drive and comprehensive kidney screenings.
The kidney screenings cost $25 per person and includes an analysis of blood pressure, sodium, calcium, glucose, and liver functioning.

You can pre-register for the blood drive and the screening by calling 773-298-3592.
You can also participate in 15 minute exercise classes, which include chair yoga at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., beginner strength training at 11 a.m. and Zumba at 12 p.m. and 1 p.m.

Jennifer Quinlan, Shannon Center Facility Manager, said, “The Heath Fair is a way for the Saint Xavier community to know all the different options and services available to them in terms of health, fitness and nutrition.”

This is by no means the first health fair for SXU or Quinlan.

“I helped start the Health Fair 10 years ago and when it first started we only had about 20 vendors. Now we have over 40 vendors and the attendance continues to grow every year. We have added vendors that we feel can attract all ages.”

Some vendors at this year’s Fair include Accelerated Rehab Physical Therapy, the American Cancer Society, Cook County Department of Public Health, CVS Pharmacy and Minute Clinic, and Tricoci University.

“I hope the Health Fair motivates people to pay attention to their health and be motivated to make small changes that will affect their overall quality of life,” Quinlan stated.
This event is free to the public. For more information, contact the Shannon Center at 773-298-3592 or visit sxu.edu keyword: health fair.
