Saint Xavier vs Lindenwood University Game Recap

It was a warm afternoon in Belleville, Illinois when the #21 ranked Saint Xavier Cougars came into town to face the Lindenwood Lynx.

Saint Xavier entered the game with a record of 1-2, coming off a victory last week against Missouri Baptist University by a score of 34-7.

Meanwhile, Lindenwood came into this game with a record of 0-2, coming off of a loss last week against Saint Ambrose University by a score of 0-26.

Saint Xavier started the game off with the ball, but after a long drive, the Cougars could not convert on a fourth down and gave the ball up to the Lynx.

After a failed Lindenwood drive, the Cougars got the ball back and marched down the field.

Eventually, SXU quarterback Alex Martinez threw a 45 yard touchdown pass to Elliott Pipkin to put the Cougars up 7-0.

After another failed Lynx drive, the Cougars got the ball back and were able to kick a field goal to make it 10-0 in their favor.

Lindenwood got the ball back, but could not convert on a fourth down and gave the ball back to the Cougars.

Saint Xavier took advantage immediately when Alex Martinez threw a 63 yard touchdown pass to Harold Davis to put the Cougars up 17-0.

The Lynx got the ball back, but were forced to punt the ball back to Saint Xavier four minutes later.

The Cougars did not take their foot off the gas pedal as they kept throwing deep passes and running the ball efficiently.

Eventually, Alex Martinez threw a 12 yard touchdown pass to Nick Czeszewski to put the Cougars up 24-0 and that was the score going into halftime.

Saint Xavier got the ball first after the half, but were unable to do anything with it.
Lindenwood got the ball and were able to march down the field and score a touchdown to put them on the board and make it a 24-7 game.

After a few more drives of both teams not really achieving much of note, the third quarter ended.

The fourth quarter started with the Saint Xavier defense tackling Lindenwood running back Jaquay Owens in the backfield for a safety, making it 26-7 Saint Xavier.

Lindenwood eventually got the ball back, but after another handoff to Jaquay Owens, Saint Xavier forced a fumble and recovered it before taking it to the endzone for another touchdown, making it a 33-7 game in favor of the Cougars.

Lindenwood got the ball back and were eventually able to throw a touchdown to make it a 33-14 game.

However, by the time they got the ball back again, there was not enough time to make a comeback.

The clock expired and Saint Xavier came out with a 33-14 victory.

SXU quarterback Alex Martinez threw for three touchdowns in this victory.

Saint Xavier improves to 2-2 on the year, while Lindenwood falls to 0-3.

Lindenwood must now shake off this defeat and prepare for their next game at Indiana Wesleyan University.

Saint Xavier now prepares for their next game against #1 ranked St. Francis (IN). next week at Deaton Field.
