This article contains spoilers for The Mandalorian
The Mandalorian made a big splash with all types of audiences, especially fans of Star Wars late last year when it debuted on the Disney streaming service, Disney+. While the show’s first season has wrapped, the anticipation for the second season is growing more everyday. Adding to the anticipation, Slashfilm reported that they received word that actress, Rosario Dawson, would be playing Ahsoka Tano in the upcoming season.
Ahsoka Tano is now a beloved character from the Star Wars franchise. She originated from the animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars in 2008. Star Wars creator, George Lucas, co-created this character with the executive producer of the series, Dave Filoni. Her character was first met with mixed reactions and feelings. Some saw her only as an annoyance and a distraction from the favorite characters. However, after fans and audiences were able to witness her trials and tribulations throughout the show, she has basically become a household name in the Star Wars universe.
Now, while Lucasfilm nor Disney have not confirmed or denied anything, Variety is also reporting this story, further indicating the possibility of this scenario.
Just recently, Ahsoka Tano made a vocal appearance in The Rise of Skywalker towards the end of the film. She was voiced by Ashley Eckstein who voiced her in both The Clone Wars and in Star Wars Rebels, where she appeared for about a season.
Before The Rise of Skywalker, fans and audiences last saw Ahsoka Tano in the finale of Star Wars Rebels. The Mandalorian takes place several years after the Star Wars Rebels finale, so it would totally make sense if she appears.
In the past, Star Wars fans have personally campaigned to have Rosario Dawson play Ahsoka Tano in some sort of live-action material. In early 2017, a campaign for Dawson to play Ahsoka began trending on Twitter. Dawson herself saw this campaign trending on Twitter and retweeted with saying, “Ummmm… yes please?! #AhsokaLives #AhsokaTano #StarWars.”
The character’s own co-creator, Dave Filoni, is one of the producers for The Mandalorian. It is not crazy to believe that Filoni would in fact pick up Ahsoka Tano’s story and have her appear in the Disney+ original series.
So everything pretty much checks out as to the rumor possibly being true. If it is true, what could Ahsoka be doing in The Mandalorian?
Well some fans have suggested that Ahsoka could assist the Mandalorian or as it was previously revealed, Din Djarin, in returning “the child” to it’s home. As we saw, the child or “Baby Yoda” has Force abilities. While Ahsoka no longer classifies herself as a Jedi, she still is a part of the light side of the Force. Maybe she sees it as her responsibility to help out in this unique dilemma. This scenario totally fits her role in Star Wars Rebels so it isn’t too far fetched.
The last time fans saw Ahsoka, she was with a Mandalorian named, Sabine Wren. Which begs the question, could Ahsoka and Sabine appear on the show because they are on a mission to steal back the Mandalorian Darksaber that the antagonist, Moff Gideon, is seen wielding in the final shot of the season? Only time will tell. The Mandalorian season 2 begins streaming this coming October.
