What a chaotic past week! Last Tuesday, former NBA star Lamar Odom was found unconscious in Nevada. Odom was staying at Dennis Hof’s Love Ranch South and after days of partying, a staff member discovered him in his room. Since then, a lot of information has been released and Odom is now out of a coma and responding.
Here is everything you need to know about this bizarre situation. Lamar Odom has had his fair share of troubles since his split from reality-television star Khloe Kardashian, but it seems that it has finally taken a toll on him. Odom checked into the ranch in the town of Crystal, Nevada on Saturday and was discovered, as mentioned before, on Tuesday.
The staff member that discovered Odom immediately called 911 and followed the instructions from the emergency operator. The staff member then turned Odom on his side as instructed and that is when Lamar began spitting up liquid.
Originally, Odom was supposed to be air-lifted to a nearby Las Vegas hospital but because of his 6-foot-10 stature, he had to be transported via ambulance. After hearing the news, part of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, Khloe, Kim, Kris, Kourtney, and Kylie, hopped on a plane to be by Odom’s side.
Khloe even arranged a flight for Odom’s two children, their mother, and Odom’s father and they arrived that Wednesday. Khloe has not left his side since arriving Tuesday.
Even though it was said that there were no drugs found around him back at the ranch, tests stated otherwise. Drugs and other supplements were indeed found in his system and they were treating the situation as an “overdose”. A source revealed that Odom suffered a “loss of oxygen”, which resulted in an apparent “ischemic stroke” caused by a blood clot preventing blood flow to his brain.
The source also stated, “Likely there’s brain damage, but they’re not sure how much,” the source added. “Virtually every drug imaginable was found in his system”. One of the drugs found was crack cocaine, which caused him to choke along with mucous.
Doctors then tried to fix the damage that had been done. An insider revealed that this situation was probably and accidental overdose, not a suicide attempt. Odom remained in a medically-induced coma and had to be hooked up to a ventilator because he was unable to breathe on his own.
At that point, doctors and those around him were not optimistic about his condition. Everyone also learned some other interesting information during this situation. It was reported back in July that Khloe and Lamar’s divorce was finalized, but in reality, it was not. A judge has yet to sign off on the divorce paperwork due to a file backlog.
They estimate that it will be signed off by the end of this year. Khloe has been making all of the medical decisions because she is still legally married to him. Since this means that they are still legally married, if Odom did pass away, Khloe was Lamar’s next of kin.
If anything happened to him, Khloe would have most likely passed his will or estate down to his children since she does not need anything from him. A blood sample was taken from Odom to determine if he did suffer from a drug or alcohol overdose and it was confirmed that he did. To everyone’s surprise, it was revealed that he awoke from a coma on Friday.
He gave a thumbs up to Khloe, said a few words, and then went back to sleep. Odom is now no longer using a breathing tube but is using a non-rebreather mask, which is pumping oxygen instead of a ventilator.
Despite this “miraculous recovery”, he is still not out of the woods. Odom remains on dialysis due to kidney failure. As of now, doctors will not know the extent of possible brain damage that he suffered until he is fully awake.
They are currently trying to wean him off of oxygen but if his body begins to weaken, he will be placed back on the ventilator. An EKG test has been given and it shows that his heart is functioning and his heart rate and blood pressure are good.
There have been good and bad comments about this situation all over the media. While some feel sorry for him, others have a different view. Some believe that it was his choice for what he did so they feel no remorse.
Any way that you look at it, it was a scary situation. For now, everyone will just have to wait and see what happens to the troubled basketball player.
