With rumors circling around about the new library renovation, it seems like people are just catching up on their Biology homework.
Is Saint Xavier University planning on renovating, or reconstructing, or making a whole new building for the biological sciences? If so, which one is it?
In order to get the real story behind all these ideas, only one person can give it to us straight.
When asked to clear things up for us, President Christine M. Wiseman states that the planning of the renovations has been going on for quite some time.
“We worked over several months with deans, department chairs, science faculty and students to create plans that would meet their long-term and short-term needs. Our plan, therefore, is to build new science facilities and to renovate the existing science labs as funds become available.”
This idea resulted from personal interviews and focus groups that took place last year that involved around 200 campus leaders that consisted of trustees, staff, faculty, students, and alumni.
From these personal interviews and focus groups, Wiseman reports that the renovations were of great imporance.
“The science facilities emerged as the top priority that demanded our attention.”
Wiseman continues, “The Board of Trustees has made a commitment to a capital campaign to improve our science facilities, raise scholarship funds and to otherwise enhance the campus in order to serve the next generation of Saint Xavier students.”
What exactly should students at SXU expect? Wiseman mentions that “Our plan is to add a state-of-the-art science facility over the next several years as part of the campus.”
With these plans currently being pursued, President Wiseman explains the impract that the renovations will have on the entire SXU community, both present and past members.
“What is needed in order to realize that plan is a strong response from alumni and friends of the University who appreciate the extraordinary impact that their Saint Xavier education has had on their lives, and are committed to giving generously so that the next generation of Saint Xavier students can access the very best learning opportunities and environment,” she stated.
What is being done about this now? President Wiseman expresses that the plans for the renovations of the science wing we have today, as well as the construction of the science building we hope to see are a high priority and are being pursued.
“The trustees and I are committed to raising funds to meet this critical need.
Right now, we are in the Leadership Phase of a capital campaign designed to raise funds for this and other institutional needs. A steering committee has been constituted and meets monthly, a national steering committee is engaged, and we are actively seeking people (alums and donors from many areas) to make an investment in Saint Xavier’s future,” pronounces Wiseman.
