On January 15, Residence Life unveiled the new ResCenter in Regina Hall’s Lobby. The redesigned space replaced Figaro’s, a pizza shop that had occupied the space until the end of the fall 2011 semester.
It had sat in a state of translation for two semesters while the university decided how to renovate the space.
After the two semesters of inoccupation, the space was finally renovated.The end result: a place intended as a space where students can hang and chill after class.
Where the ovens and serving counters of Figaro’s once stood, there is now a small, unraised stage, the Center Stage.
This new Center Stage is capable of hosting a variety of student activities ranging from small scale improv shows, musical performances, open mic nights, or speakers. Slightly to the rear of the Center stage, where students used to line in droves for pasta twice a week, is a multipurpose area.
This an area where students can do anything from eat their lunch to study or play a board or card game with their other SXU students. The space is equipped with improved lighting, a printer, a scanner, and a bunch of circular tables and chairs.
The main area of the space (right in front of Center Space) is also occupied by tables and chairs. However, there is also both an air hockey and a pool table for students to enjoy during their down time. A 62” TV also dominates the room and is fully equipped with a Nintendo Wii, complete with several new games that can be checked out.
Another new feature is a new sound system to which a variety of electronic devices can be hooked up to including iPods, laptops, and DVD players. The space also saw upgrades to the vending area which became the Snack Center, a small side room equipped with microwaves and vending machines carrying a variety of snacks and microwavable foods. All resident students are able to visit and enjoy the ResCenter.
