Reflections and Observations Post Elections

The United States Presidential Elections took place on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Vice President Kamala Harris ran as the Democratic party candidate and former President Donald Trump ran for his second term as the Republican party candidate.

Trump ultimately won the elections by way of the popular vote as well as the electoral college. Let’s just say that a large number of voters were not happy with the news and made that very clear online.

Personally, as a Palestinian, the Presidential elections do not matter to me anymore because no matter what, each candidate and each president is funded by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and has pledged to unconditionally support Israel in its genocidal war on Gaza.

For these reasons, I chose to not vote for either party, so as to not have blood on my hands if I chose to vote for the next butcher of Palestine.

Many supporters of Harris’s campaign have been utterly devastated that Harris lost the elections and now fear for what life will be like with Trump as president for the second time.

The Trump campaign has been significantly against abortions and the right to get an abortion except in cases where there is risk to the mother’s life as well as rape or incest. Harris on the other hand has been advocating for women’s reproductive rights without exceptions.

With the overturning of Roe v Wade in June 2022, some women choose to vote for Harris who vowed to protect women’s reproductive rights. It is up to the states to decide whether or not abortions will be allowed, despite being illegal at the federal level. Although it is unfortunate, it’s the same thing with recreational marijuana as it’s legal in some states and illegal under federal law.

However, due to Harris losing the election, many liberals and democrats have decided to gang up and cyber attack Palestinians, Arabs in general, and Muslims for Trump winning. During this year’s elections, many pro-Palestinians decided to vote third party for Jill Stein to avoid voting for either Trump or Harris because of their stance on Palestine. They said that if all of those votes for Stein had gone to Harris then she would have won, avoiding another Trump presidency.

According to the Associated Press, Stein allotted less than one million votes, however, which still would not have been enough for Harris to win, as she would still be about three million votes short of winning the popular vote.

Despite knowing this information, it has not stopped Harris’s supporters from cyber attacking Pro-Palestinians and calling for the destruction of Gaza as a result.

I’ve personally seen people film Tiktok videos saying they will go back to supporting companies such as Starbucks and McDonald’s who have been public with their support for Israel since Harris didn’t win the elections.

Some people even posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that they hope Trump will  turn Gaza into a “parking lot.” The political left is known for being very liberal and more sympathetic to humanitarian causes and yet when things don’t go their way, they’ve shown their true colors by taking out their anger and blaming minorities simply because their genocidal candidate lost an election.

It’s almost as if for the past year pro-Palestinians have been saying that they will not vote for the Democratic party in the November 2024 elections because of their complicitness in the genocide of Gaza. It’s not our fault they didn’t take us seriously and continued to support Israel with arms and money, which ultimately cost them the elections.

Palestinian activist Nerdeen Kiswani wrote on X, “Everyone who’s been consistently protesting for Palestine over the last year have been saying that Trump winning will be the outcome of democrats massively unpopular genocide campaign in Palestine. We tried to tell y’all, only to be kicked out of spaces and told “I’m speaking.’”

Despite not supporting either Harris or Trump because of their Zionist stances, I will say that I’m happy Harris did not win. This should be a lesson for her and the rest of the Democratic candidates that you cannot openly and unconditionally support a genocide and still expect to keep your job and have people willingly vote for you.

Had Harris just condemned and sanctioned Israel while serving as Vice President, I’m sure she would have gotten the vote of the Palestinians, Arabs, and Muslims in general.

I pray this is the last presidential election where Palestine is under occupation and I have to participate in the American presidential election to choose a candidate who will serve as the next butcher of the Middle East.

Free Palestine.
