Professor Profiles: Dr. Jason Lambert

Full name: Jason Lambert

Department: Graham School of Management

Title: Assistant Professor

Dr. Lambert started working for Saint Xavier University’s Graham School of Management this semester. He got his Ph.D. in Business Administration and specializes in Organizational Behavior and Strategic Human Resources.  Before that, he got his undergraduate degree from Columbia College in Chicago, and his MBA from Saint Xavier University.

Since, Dr. Lambert has returned to his hometown. He grew up on Chicago’s south side in Chatham and Avalon Park. He is glad to be back in Chicago because he is closer to family here.

Dr. Lambert, however, started off as a pre-med major before he chose to pursue a management degree. He said he switched majors because, “I always enjoyed business, and knowing what makes people tick.”

Dr. Lambert was hard pressed to find a reason not to work at Saint Xavier. He said “When I was here I enjoyed my time as a student, I enjoyed the culture the people and so I knew it would be a great place to work.” After receiving his Ph.D. he wanted to go back to Saint Xavier to teach but there was not a position open immediately. Eventually, a position opened up.

The community here is Dr. Lambert’s favorite part of Saint Xavier University.

Dr. Lambert stated that while at Saint Xavier “you’re around people who want to be here, who value their education, when you look at the students they’re engaging, they think critically, they have principles and values that most of us all share within this one institution. Then you look at the faculty its also communal in the sense that people not only come here to work but I think they come here to fellowship with one another and try to learn from one another.”

Some of the professors that taught Dr. Lambert are still teaching at Saint Xavier. That also indicated to him that Saint Xavier would be a great place to work. He says, “Hopefully twenty years from now I’ll be one of those people talking to a new faculty member saying, ‘Yeah I’ve been here twenty years!’”

Monica Gavino and Muhammad Chishty were Dr. Lambert’s HR and Statistics professors. Gavino encouraged Dr. Lambert to pursue his Ph.D. to teach. He now enjoys teaching with her,  and he says he feels “like the poster child” for the Graham School.

Being at Saint Xavier University feels the same for Dr. Lambert. He described being here again, “It’s pretty much the same. The minute I came on campus the same vibe or feeling just came over me.”

But, physically, the campus has changed a lot. He thinks it has gotten better. There have been many renovations and additions, including the development of the new Gilbert, Arizona campus.

Outside of teaching Dr. Lambert likes to train his son, one of his three children, who plays baseball. Baseball and basketball are his favorite sports. He also likes to read sci-fi books. Although his time is limited because of his job, he really enjoys his research on early recruitment and selection, workplace diversity, and hiring discrimination.

Next semester, Dr. Lambert is teaching Magement-370, Organizational Behavior.  The class is open to non-majors, and it will teach students about stress, stress management, motivation, and behavior dynamics.
