Abdul-Majid Wazwaz will be celebrating his 5th award of the Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researcher.
In his 28th year of teaching at Saint Xavier University, Wazwaz is an esteemed Professor of Mathematics.
Wazwaz is remebered fondly among faculty and studens alike for his direct approach to mathematics instruction. Justin Growchoski said. “Ask him what 1 plus 1 equals.” as a highlight of his time spent with Wazwaz.
His previous experience includes being a member of the American Mathematical Society, and also SIAM, the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
Before gracing Saint Xavier University with his presence, Wazwaz sat as Chairman for the Department of Computer Science at Ibrahimieh University College, as well as Al-Quds University, from the span of 1984-1990.
Wazwaz expedition for knowledge began in 1958, when he attended Cairo University and received a Bachelor’s of Science Distinction, as well as a “First Class Honor”.
From there, his appetite for education only grew even more insatiable , as he attended Western Illinois University to obtain a Master of Science in Mathematics in 1975. His journey came to an end after receiving a Ph.d in Applied Mathematics from the University of Illinois At Chicago.
Wazwaz has actually had over 500 different publications in respect to his craft. This ever growing list of publications is what earned Wazwaz the Highly Cited Researcher badge for the years 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.
Following the official list release for 2017, Clarivate Analytics posted a document titled “Clarivate Analytics names the world’s most impactful scientific researchers with the release of the 2017 Highly Cited Researchers List” which expanded on the badge, as well as the terms of qualification.
“For more than two decades the Web of Science has served as the basis for regular listings of researchers whose work is cited at a level markedly higher than average for their fields.
Clarivate Analytics now presents the latest updates to these listings: the extensive roster of 2017’s Highly Cited Researchers, based on work published and cited over the last decade.”
When SXU Spotlight contacted Wazwaz on his feelings of receiving this award, he said “This means a lot to me because it shows that the achievements and the progress that I obtained in my works are useful and promising… This also prompts me to pursue my professional development for the sake of making further progress.
“Hence why it is such an honor; when my own peers in the broader mathematical community depend on my research to help in theirs, it is a recognition that is beyond my description.”
Not only was Wazwaz able to place as one of the 3300 recpients for this badge, he was also able to acheive a larger degree of award. As Wazwaz provided, Clarivate Analytics reached out to tell him,
“Congratulations! In case you missed our last email, you have been identified in the 2018 Highly Cited Researchers list from Clarivate Analytics. During the last decade, you have produced multiple highly cited papers, which are defined as those ranking in the top 1% by citations for a publication field and year. This is a tremendous accomplishment as very few researchers earn this distinction”
