The Saint Xavier University Drama Club will be putting on a holiday show titled “How the Bear Saved Christmas!”. The production will be on December 5, at 5 pm in McGuire Hall, doors will open at 4:30 pm.
Shealyn Scott, the Vice President of Drama Club, wrote this original script based on “Winnie-the-Pooh”, whose original A.A. Milne’s story officially entered the public domain this year.
Scott said after talking to other members of the club, she knew it had to be “Winnie-the-Pooh” because “it’s a classic story so many of my peers and I read as children, and I thought it would be exciting to revisit it reimagined as an adult”.
And what could be a better way to kick off the holiday season with a reimagined version of “Winnie-the-Pooh” written by one of SXU’s very own?
In addition to putting on a great show, Drama Club has partnered with the Service Club, American Red Cross Club, the Pre-Medical Society, and the Ronald McDonald House for this play.
They partnered with RMH to benefit the families of children hospitalized at Advocate Christ Medical Center.
Instead of a traditional admission fee, Drama Club will be collecting donations of children’s toys, blankets, clothes, and/or canned foods to donate to the families at RMH.
There will be donation boxes outside of McGuire Hall the day of the show if you cannot make the show, but would still like to donate items.
Not wanting to give any spoilers, the show will be full of Christmas cliches.
From Piglet building a snowman, Eeyore decorating a tree, and Santa delivering a very special gift to someone, the production will be a fun and endearing event to bring joy to the season.
The show will also be open to the public for anyone with a younger relative who may be interested in a “Winnie-the-Pooh” play.
