Pat Leary and Tom Kelleher are the ‘Featured Artists of the Week’ for Oct. 19. They are long time friends who began performing as a jazz duo roughly ten years ago. Inspired by classic rock bands, such as The Beatles, hip-hop from MF Doom, both arrived in the genre of jazz.
Host Peter Kreten interviewed Pat and Tom. They discuss recording their album Then/Now in the Fine Arts Building in Chicago’s Loop, that jazz’s past needs to be celebrated, while embracing the future, and how unique the current Chicago jazz scene is.
Also on the program, new to the show The Queue, Final Slate, and Tom Oeffling. The Queue released a new song ‘You Against Me‘, that is straight out of the Britpop sound of the 90s. Final Slate is pure Chicago, with a heavy blues guitar sound. Finally, Tom Oeffling has a new album coming out on Oct. 30 entitled ‘Neighbors‘.
773 Sounds is WXAV’s local music show. Hear it every Tuesday at 6pmCST and Saturdays at 10amCST.
