Palos Heights Spotlight: Franklins Public House’s Delicious Eats

Steak Salad                                                                         The Xavierite

Less than 20 minutes from Saint Xavier’s campus lies Franklin’s Public House, a lively restaurant that caters to a wide range of people. During spring break, some staff members of The Xavierite took a trip to try the food out for themselves.

To make the trip happen, a reservation was placed around a week in advance. I would recommend this step if you plan to visit with a larger group of people to ensure a lessened wait time.

They have parking spots on the side of the building and an extra lot in the back, which were both easy to access.

As soon as we walked in, there was a shared feeling of excitement for the experience. The atmosphere of Franklin’s was quite busy with crowds of people and lots of noise, but we had a feeling the food would not disappoint.

The options were overwhelming, but in a good way; it was hard to settle on one choice of several standouts. Samantha Alcala, a features reporter, noted the wide array of likable options that had unique ingredients.

I ended up going with the Brisket Tacos with Hand Cut Fries on the side. The tacos were topped with jalapeño coleslaw and sriracha sauce. I decided on corn tortillas, but they also offer flour.

The sriracha really pulled the entire flavor together, making for tacos that were the perfect dinner. I would also classify the fries as a must-try for anyone who plans to visit Franklin’s in the future; they are delectable.

As pictured earlier, another order was for the Steak Salad, which includes beef tenderloin, spinach, arugula, cherry tomatoes, red onions, red cabbage, carrots, fontina cheese, and a chimichurri vinaigrette. The only thing to note is the vinaigrette for this salad was a bit overpowering compared to other dressing options.

Winter Salmon     The Xavierite

One member of The Xavierite ordered the Winter Salmon, one of the entrees from their winter menu that was still available in early March. The entree is based with Atlantic salmon alongside a potato medley and roasted cauliflower, topped with white wine lemon-butter sauce.

Steak Sandwich     The Xavierite

Some other people from The Xavierite crew ordered some of the sandwich selections Franklin’s has to offer. The first one would be the Steak Sandwich. This meal uses grilled beef tenderloin, roasted garlic aioli, arugula, provolone, and peppadew peppers on an herb ciabatta roll.

Turkey Bacon Cranberry Melt     The Xavierite

The next would be the Turkey Bacon Cranberry Melt. This dish combines turkey, Swiss cheese, bacon, arugula, cranberry sauce, and aioli on the restaurant’s toasted potato bread.

Not pictured, a couple people went with the Grown-Up Grilled Cheese, which was one of the dishes I almost went with originally. This sandwich combines cheddar, swiss, American, and Monterey Jack cheeses alongside tomato, bacon, avocado, and garlic aioli.

Franklin’s menu consists of a variety of other items in several categories: Starters, Sliders/Flatbreads & More, Soups/Salads, Sides, Entrees, Handhelds, and Desserts. They have options varying from Reuben Eggrolls to Mushroom Flatbread, with plenty of notable flavors in between. Regardless of the time of day, there is a suitable option sure to be memorable.

Located in the same area is Franklin’s Pie Company, which is a must-visit for when you go. After eating at the Public House, you can walk right over to grab a slice of pie or a treat to satisfy sweet cravings.

Triple Berry Pie and Vanilla Latte     The Xavierite

Their menu includes bakery treats, savory food, pies, coffee, and tea. During my visit, I tried a slice of the Triple Berry Pie and an Iced Vanilla Latte. There are three different sizes for the pies; you can try a slice or buy an entire one. Both the pie and the coffee were truly amazing and I will be back soon.

Franklin’s Public House opens at 11 a.m. every day. On Monday-Thursday, they close at 10 p.m. On Friday-Saturday, they close at 11 p.m. On Sundays, they close at 9 p.m.

For Franklin’s Pie Company, they are open from 8 a.m. to 7 a.m. daily.

You can find Franklin’s Public House at 12306 S Harlem Avenue in Palos Heights. Franklin’s Pie Company is located at 12306 S Harlem Avenue Suite 103.
