Now is Not the Time to Have a Halloween Party

As many of you know, Halloween lands on a Saturday this year! What a perfect opportunity to have a party right? The answer is no! Many people are resuming their yearly celebrations and are having parties this year. This is a horrible idea. People seem to forget that we are still in a pandemic and that the coronavirus is still around and is spreading continuously.

I understand that many people are tired of being in quarantine and not being able to go out. Trust me, I am tired of it too. People are becoming reckless and are going about their days like the virus is gone and people are not still becoming sick and dying.

According to bbc.com, “In the US, there have been around 8.1 million coronavirus infections and over 219,000 deaths.” This is an insane amount of COVID cases in the United States alone. BBC also mentions that cases had gone down in September, “…but are now averaging around 55,000 per day,” with October 16th coming in at 70,000 cases. This is an astronomical amount of cases for just one day. It has also been said that COVID cases expect to rise during the winter months. There is no denying statistics showing the rise in cases. Many places are also going back to phase 3 of reopening since the cases are getting worse.

It amazes me that even though people are seeing the numbers rise everyday, they are still willing to have a Halloween party to have fun. Parties are a huge risk because all it takes is one infected person to spread it to everyone at the party. Some people do not show any symptoms and are simply carriers. This makes it a lot easier for the virus to spread among people. People are being careless  and do not care about people getting sick with COVID. It is really irresponsible for people to be having any big parties during this time. People can act like the virus is gone and that it doesn’t affect them, but that is not the truth. There will be more opportunities for people to have parties and celebrate all the holidays, but for now people just have to be patient and follow CDC guidelines.

I know that no one is able to control who has parties and the amount of people invited. If there are parties, I believe it is also the personal responsibility of everyone to stay home if they are not feeling well. It is incredibly irresponsible for people to still go to parties and see others when they are not feeling well and are exposing others to the virus.

The best case scenario is for everyone to hold off on the parties, but I know this is not attainable. People will choose to do whatever they want. I just hope that people are responsible and recognize that now is not the time to have Halloween parties or any other parties.
