Nintendo, out of all video game publishers, have been the life of the party. There is never a dull moment with them because you never know what they will invent next. As the creators of Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros, they have filled the hearts of many gamers with their exhilarating and memorable video games. Nintendo is not afraid of risk nor experimenting with their ideas.

Nintendo’s products have always been inclusive and appealing to everyone, no matter younger, older, or any gender. Anyone could enjoy a competitive game of Mario Kart with loved ones. For those who’d rather enjoy their alone time after a long day’s routine can find themselves indulging in Legend of Zelda’s action-adventure.

In the past, Nintendo has caught our attention through their irresistible amiibo figurines, serving as interactive game-compatible and adorable decorations.

On March 3 of last year, the Nintendo Switch was released, creating blurred lines between the concept of a household and portable game console which blew the minds of millions as this brand new console was then a hit. Mario Odyssey, Sonic Mania, and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild are few of the many iconic games you can purchase to play on this console. With two controllers, also known as “Joy-cons”, you can play with a friend.

Overall, the Switch has been a convenient console for those who love video games that are always on the go. It is especially ideal to those who are constantly at school and work.

However, Nintendo wasn’t finished glamming up the Switch. On January 17, the company announced the “Nintendo Labo.” You’d be just as confused as I was when I heard that this new product was meant to be made of cardboard.

The concept is this: you purchase these cardboard templates that are pre-cut for you, pop them out of the cardboard, and begin folding you marvelous creation. It sounds much more simple than it actually is. The end results are actually quite daunting yet magnificent.

What seems to be crafty art projects for gamers is actually quite more than that. You can use these creations to make quirky playstands for your console and its Joy-con controllers.

While watching Nintendo’s “First Look” video on Youtube, we are steadily holding onto our seats, deciphering as we watch. In all honesty, we probably all initially wondered “why is Nintendo selling cardboard toys” or “what is the purpose of this?” But the creativity and the craftiness behind the idea is undeniably intriguing.

In the video, we are shown that we can create things even we would have never thought would be on Nintendo’s minds. They have made designs so that a consumer may create a fishing rod, a small piano, and a small house. These crafts are interactive.

In other words, these crafts can change the way you play your games on the nintendo switch. There is a physical component to it now as opposed to sitting down and just fiddling with the joysticks, triggers, and buttons. Their Robot Kit software allows you to become the robot. You can make a motorbike and enhance your Mario Kart 8 Deluxe experience.

However, there’s no need to be alarmed or intimidated. Nintendo is always looking out for its customers. So as you’re folding your creation, you can also have clear and visual instructions presented to you on your Nintendo Switch.

The cardboard templates come plainly besides the the black outlines that defines the design and details of the model. For the art-and-crafts lover, this kind of product is especially for them. A variety of artistic medium can be used on the Nintendo Labo’s cardboard surfaces such as marker and tape. These can be bought along with the order of the product along with their mario-themed stickers. Although colorful tape and markers were evidently used in the reveal video, one could even use other medium such as spray and acrylic paints. After you’ve build the model, it’s what you make of it.

Nintendo is a polished, refreshing, professional, and innovative video-game publisher. Perhaps if other companies have been disappointing, you know you can always count on Nintendo for making something remarkable out of your video game experience.

Their Nintendo Labo can certainly bring a joyous experience with your Nintendo Switch. I can definitely find myself using the motorbike as winning first-place in Mario Kart would look so much cooler now.

You are now able to pre-order the Nintendo Labo off or purchase it on April 20, 2018!
