As a metal fan, there were many 2019 albums that were dropped within the genre.
Despite it being very early in 2020, there are plenty of albums being released or teased to be released, many of which I am excited for.
2020 has already started out strong with heavy hitters, such as both Sepultura and Ozzy Osbourne coming out with new albums. Both are definitely worth listening to.
However, there are plenty of albums that are supposed to come out that I am looking forward to as well.
For starters, one of the first albums I am excited for is Testament’s album Titans Of Creation.
The record is supposed to come out April 3rd of 2020. Additionally as this band has been around for a very long time, it will be very interesting to see where they take the next release in their discography.
The next album I am excited for is Lamb of God’s upcoming release of their self titled album.
The band dropped a surprise teaser track titled “Checkmate” in February and the new album is set to come out on May 8th.
The band always pushes the limits with how heavy music can go while still managing to sound very melodic while also having an amazing groove. I’m very excited to see what they do with this next project as, in my opinion, they haven’t had a bad album yet.
There are also a few bands that are rumored to have 2020 releases, but neither the dates or album titles have been confirmed yet.
Evanescence is one band that has definitely played with the idea and many fans including myself would love to hear a new album, as their last album called Synthesis was predominantly remixes of songs on previous albums, so it would be really nice to hear something new and fresh from them to see how their style continues to develop.
Before that record, they released the record The Open Door, which was released all the way back in 2006. Excited is an understatement for how I feel about this potential album.
Another band I’d love to hear from is Deftones. The last album they came out with, Gore, was released in 2016.
It was an exceptional record, but after four years, I am eager to hear another project from them.
I am curious to see if they decided to go the more alternative art rock style like albums Saturday Night Wrist and Koi No Yokan, or the heavier side such as their self-titled record, Around the Fur, or even Diamond Eyes.
Gojira is also supposed to be putting a new album out, although like the previous two, everything is still to be announced at the moment. I am still excited as Gojira has some amazing musicians that blow me away everytime I listen to them, with many tracks that are just as heavy as they are melodic and beautiful.
Overall, there are many bands that have come out with or are coming out with new material this year.
I am really looking forward to hearing the overall style evolution of these various artists and to see what they plan on introducing into the new decade.
