The Student Success team at Saint Xavier University recently announced that the university would welcome the Navigate app to students starting April 17.
In a message sent to students via Canvas, the Student Success Team explained how the app would serve many purposes including scheduling appointments for career advising and having further access to academic resources.
The message further stated that “Navigate is a coordinate care network at your fingertips” and “this simple tool allows you to stay connected, access what you need, and tracks your progress and involvement at SXU so you only tell your story once.”
The roll-out of the app is planned to be in three phases, with the first phase occurring on April 17 and giving students the ability to access career advising, additional academic support, and accessibility resources.
Additionally, “undecided and pre-clinical nursing students (only) can schedule academic appointments in Navigate during this phase.”
Phase two, which doesn’t yet have a specific date attached to it, will give students a chance to become familiar with the app while having certain faculty members get a feel for how to use the system.
Phase three, which is the last phase, will entail faculty members receiving training on how best to use the app to better support students, particularly how to “set up their availability so students may schedule academic advising appointments through Navigate” and tutoring and writing assistance will also be available through the app during this phase.
Currently, student resources are available across multiple platforms and Navigate intends for all those resources to be available in one place to eliminate the time and hassle that multiple platforms can cause students.
For example, if students want to access academic advising, they would have to go to the Canvas page for their specified major or program, while if they wanted to obtain academic assistance such as tutoring, they would have to go to the learning center website to make an appointment.
Furthermore, Navigate will give students direct communication with other students if they desire to study with others, which is the app’s effort to encourage peer collaboration.
Students will be able to start using the app on its drop date by either downloading it from the app store or google play and there will also be a desktop version available through the website https://sxu.navigate.eab.com/.
