The Saint Xavier University track teams were back competing this past weekend taking on their competition in the Chicagoland Championships hosted by North Central College in Naperville, Ill. Both teams had some pretty impressive weeks with more Cougars qualifying for the NAIA National Championships.
As they are used to doing, the women’s track team had another solid week in the Chicagoland Championships. In the women’s 800 meter run, finishing in ninth place out of over 50 competitors with a time of 2:24.70 was junior Leslie Rosario.
Behind Rosario, finishing in 13th place was freshman Christa Pitts with a time of 2:25.71. Taking first place in the women’s 1000 meter run was senior Jackie Ott finishing with a time of 3:08.61.
In the women’s distance medley, the team of sophomore Ann Kolker, juniors Rosario and Anna Galvez, and senior Ott finished in fourth place with a time of 12:39.07.
Senior Ashley Shares took first place in the 5000 meter run finishing with a time of 18:19.89.
The men’s team had a solid week to say the least. Sophomore John Stancato took ninth place out of over 60 competitors in the men’s 60 meter dash finishing with a time of 7.14.
Stancato also finished in eighth place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.17. In the 400 meter dash, sophomore Matt Krakowski took 14th place with a time of 51.93. Junior Brian Corcoran placed fifth out of more than 50 competitors in the 800 meter dash with a time of 1:56.78.
In the men’s 1000 meter run, freshman Eric Hancock finished in sixth place with a time of 2:35.30. A group of Cougars qualified for Nationals in the men’s distance medley.
The team of Hancock, Stancato and juniors Shane Kenney and Corcoran took fourth place and finished with a time of 10:19.45.
This Friday, the women’s track team will be competing in the GVSU Tune-Up in Allendale, Michigan hosted by Grand Valley State University.
The men’s track team will be competing on Saturday in the Margaret Bradley Classic hosted by the University of Chicago.
Good luck to all of the Cougars and hopefully we can get a few more runners qualified for Nationals!
