It took a month but I can finally say this about SXU Men’s Volleyball team winner, winner chicken dinner.
The team was able to capture their first win of the season this past Saturday against Siena Heights University in their second match in back to back days.
The team first had to contend with Lourdes University on the road Friday night in Sylvania, Ohio.
The Cougars played tough but were beat in four sets: 16-25, 25-15, 20-25, 18-25.
Senior outside hitter Justin Cousin led the team in defeat with nine kills and six digs on the evening, and freshmen setter Moises Lopez helped pace the offense finishing with 23 assists.
Freshmen outside hitter Sean Barry had another impressive outing with seven kills and senior right side hitter Nick Piccirillo led the defense with nine digs.
On Saturday the team would try to win their first game of the season again traveling to Adrian, Mich. to take on Siena Heights University in an early afternoon game.
The heavens opened up and the Cougars finally broke through and won the match in straight sets: 25-20, 25-12, 28-26.
Sophomore middle blocker Sam Krull was a big contributor with nine kills and two aces.
Cousin played an incredible match with 12 kills and Barry had seven kills and four service aces.
Lopez paced the offense again and ended up dishing out 37 assists.
The Cougar offense played really well finishing the match with 41 kills for a attack percentage of .310.
The team will hope to build off this momentum going into their match against No. 10 ranked Cardinal Stritch University.
It will be a home game on Tuesday Jan. 11 on Bob Hallberg Court in the Shannon Center.
