Finishing out week six, the men’s volleyball team remains in the NAIA coaches top 15 rankings, claiming the 15 seed this week. The Cougars have quickly picked up the pace and found themselves on a 11 game winning streak.
Following a week of CCAC sweeps, the men’s volleyball team looked towards the Illinois Tech Tri-Match on Saturday the 19, and a single match on Monday the 21.
Senior setter, Joe Lock, had a big all around day on Saturday, recording eight service aces and 66 digs across both games.
SXU came out with a victory in four sets against Milwaukee School of Engineering for the first match of the day.
Shane and Grant Ooms were a powerhouse versus the Raiders, combining for 20 kills out of the team’s 39.
The Cougars also had 14 service aces across the four sets, compared to just five from MSOE.
The second match of the day came against Illinois Institute of Technology. SXU swept three straight sets to send the Scarlet Hawks home early.
Junior, Dan Ehlers, had a .524 attack percentage (12-1-21) and matched his career-high in service aces with three.
In the end, SXU completely dominated over IIT in attacking, registering 47 kills (.316%) to their 20 kills (.103%).
On Monday the 21, against Saint Ambrose University, the Cougars swept the Fighting Bees in three straight sets.
Senior libero Kyle Springer recorded eight digs in the game, setting a new school record for career digs. He currently stands at 670 career digs with much of the season left.
Your nationally ranked no. 15 Saint Xavier Cougars pick up and play again over the weekend with the Aquinas Tri-Match on Saturday the 25. The first match is scheduled for 4 pm and the second for 6 pm.
