Memenga and Ritter Shine as Cougars Improve to 16-6 on the Year

This past week the St. Xavier University’s women’s volleyball team took on Trinity Christian College, Indiana Wesleyan University, Huntington University, and Trinity International University.

The first set of games began on Tuesday, October 11th, where the Women’s Volleyball team defended their home court, beating Trinity Chritsian College three straight sets.

The Cougars final set was their strongest, as they steamrolled past the Trolls 25-8.

In total, St. Xavier posted 21 more kills, seven more attacks, and six less errors than Trinity Chritstian. It was a dominant team win, and a building block for what looks to be a strong finish to the season.

The second game took place at Illinois Wesleyan, where star senior outside hitter, Chloe Memenga, tied SXU’s program record of 16 kills in a single match.

However, the Cougars failed to capitalize on their first set win (25-16) and lost the next three sets.

Each set was remarkably close, the first loss by two, the second loss by four, and the final loss by two. Certainly each of these sets provides the Cougars with some confidence.

They were able to hang with a great team the entire way, with great individual performances from multiple athletes.

The final game was played in Deerfield against Trinity International. The Cougars found themselves on the winning side once again in three straight sets.

It was a fantastic team win again, supported by a good performance from Courntey Hunter, who led the team with 12 kills, and Kaleigh Ritter who added 31 assists and 10 digs.

Sophomore setter, Kaleigh Ritter, was named CCAC women’s volleyball setter of the week for the fifth time this season.

The Cougars improve to 16-6 on the season and look to finish the season strong.

Their next match takes place on Thursday, October 20, against Indiana University-South Bend, in South Bend, IN., with a 6p scheduled start time.
