Article contains spoilers for Season 1 of The Mandalorian.
‘The Mandalorian’ is back! Well, almost. The marketing campaign has just recently kicked off with the official trailer for the second season of the Emmy Award winning series. The trailer gave us a glimpse into what the season will be about. Emily Swallow’s character, the Armorer, was seen throughout the first season and played an influential role in Din Djarin’s character growth.
It can even be justified that the Armorer was a spiritual leader to Djarin. Her importance is seen again in the trailer. Although her narration is reused audio from the first season’s finale episode, we do get some direction to where the story is headed.
So where is the story headed? If you recall from the finale, Mando is off to return “the Child” to his kind. Who are his kind? The Armorer tells Mando that she has heard about an organization of sorcerers called Jedi who have the same abilities as the Child. She specifies to Mando that the child is now in his hands and that he is his caregiver until he returns him home.
Based on the trailer, the second season of ‘The Mandalorian’ seems to be a long, uneasy quest. Mando and Baby Yoda are seen voyaging across different terrains, waters, and planets. It even seems that we’ll go back to Tatooine, where Mando stopped for a pit stop in the first season.
Besides Tatooine, one planet seemed all too familiar. Star Wars fans were quick to note that the snow covered planet looked similar to the planet of Ilum; previously seen in The Clone Wars and EA Star Wars’s Jedi: Fallen Order. Before the Jedi Purge, Jedi younglings would journey to this spiritual world to locate their Kyber crystal in order to construct their lightsaber.
Given the planet’s rich Jedi history, could the Mandalorian be headed to the planet to pick up clues on where the remains of the Jedi are? With Star Wars, the possibilities are quite endless.
One missing component from this trailer was the appearance of Moff Gideon. Given the final shot of Season 1, Moff Gideon, played by Giancarlo Esposito, is seen carrying the Darksaber. The black-colored lightsaber was previously seen in The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels and has rich history in the Star Wars lore.
So will Moff Gideon lack a major presence this season? Well, throughout the summer Esposito has been teasing bits and pieces of the second season. He has stated that his character has a major presence in the story and that audiences should expect heavy-action with his Darksaber.
Recently Giancarlo has been giving more hints about the upcoming season.
Where Mando and the Child end up by the end of the season, is something we don’t know. One thing we know for sure is that the journey begins on October 30th, exclusively on Disney+.
