“Loki” season two promotional poster Marvel Studios
Spoilers ahead! Do not read unless you have seen “Loki Season Two” or do not mind spoilers.
Looking back at season one, Loki has become an agent of the Time Variance Authority (TVA) and has stumbled upon a variant of himself which he falls in love with.
However, the multiverse has been unleashed. He Who Remains, a variant of the villain Kang the Conqueror, is now dead. The last time we see Loki, he has returned to a past version of the TVA where nobody knows him.
One of the things I enjoyed about Season Two was timeslipping, a subtle nod to the X-Men. Timeslipping is the concept of visiting one’s past, present, and future. It played such a pivotal role in the story and really hyped things up until the very end.
When it comes to characters, I would have to say I have a new favorite character in the show: O.B. (portrayed by Ke Huy Quan). His personality is so much fun, and he is such an important character since he is the creator of the TVA’s . Without him, I feel that the story would not flow properly.
I would like to add that I enjoyed seeing Victor Timely (portrayed by Jonathan Majors). Majors has such a unique approach to each variant of Kang the Conqueror, and this can definitely be seen throughout the season.
What I enjoyed most was the amount of emotion similar to when Thanos’s snap occurs. As time itself falls apart, all I felt was a deep sense of loss and fear for what would come next.
However, after rewatching it I felt that there are some parts of the season that do not work.
First, I know that this series is very important to Marvel Studios, but for the first few episodes of the season, there wasn’t a real sense of direction. In the first season, the multiverse was truly explored for the first time ever.
This was big, but Season Two started with Loki and the TVA agents trying to stop the TVA from collapsing due to infinite timelines being created. I found this truly unnecessary, and I was somewhat annoyed every time they failed.
Though the plot began on a dull note, I enjoyed the introductions to both O.B. and Victor Timely.
Since “Avengers: Endgame” was released, Marvel’s movies and series have been hit or miss. Low ratings and horrendous visual effects are some of the reasons why fans have been tuning out of recent releases. Consequently, fans were worried that “Loki” would fall victim to the same fate.
However, I found the second half of the season incredible. When the TVA collapses and everyone appears to die, I felt a feeling that reminded me of sitting in a movie theater watching Thanos make half of life disappear.
The finale was just jaw dropping. I find it heartbreaking that Loki, the one who wanted to be with his friends again, had to be the one to bring everything in existence together.
But how does “Loki Season Two” fit in with the rest of the MCU?
First off, the rise of Kang is coming. We have already met He Who Remains, and in “Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”, we were introduced to countless variations of Kang.
As we know, the fifth Avengers film is titled “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.” Our Avengers team is not even currently active, and I don’t even think that they’d be able to stop the Kang variants alone.
Additionally, it is mentioned in the finale that the TVA is keeping a close watch on the variants of Kang. My prediction is that the TVA is going to travel throughout the multiverse and put together a team of variant Avengers and possibly even X-Men and Fantastic Four members to stop them.
Would I recommend this? Of course I would.
I understand that the MCU is expanding in so many directions. There are too many films and shows to count, but this is one of only a few that will most likely matter for the future.
The cast is just purely phenomenal when together. Unlike previous shows and movies, there is synergy between the actors which makes it clear that they enjoy working alongside each other.
There is also a level of emotion that just hits hard, and the threats faced feel real. Between the releases of the fourth and fifth episodes, I, alongside fans, freaked out because of the uncertainty of what was next.
However, it is unknown at this time if “Loki” will get renewed for a third season.
“Loki Season Two” is currently streaming on Disney+, and “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” is currently slated to release on May 1, 2026.
