Eventually Fido will like your sister…maybe.

Dear Lauren,

My dog is awesome. My family loves him. However, he seems to like me the most out of everyone and my sister resents me for it. What can I do with her or the dog to make things go more smoothly?

Sincerely,

Dog’s Best Friend

Dear Dog’s Best Friend,
Lucky for you, I am a (self-proclaimed) dog expert/whisperer. It is completely normal for a pet to show preference over one family member.

It is probably because you are either the one that is always feeding him, playing with him or just generally his main carekeeper. That would make perfect sense why he likes you best, because he depends on your for life.

However, if everyone is sharing these chores and he still prefers you, it is probably for a different reason. Dogs are pack animals, so naturally they are going to follow their pack leader. Lucky for you, you are the chosen one. This means that out of everyone in your family, your dog sees you as his pack leader.

If you sister wants the dog to see her in the same light, she has to step up and show her dominance over the dog also. She should engage in obedience training with the dog, walk with the dog, things like that.

Or maybe your sister should just stop complaining that the dog likes you more. Dogs sense whiny people and they hate them just as much as humans do.

Good luck and remember to always listen to Lauren!
