I’m trying really hard to find a summer job, but so far I am having no such luck. Do you have any tips for me?
Sincerely,
Unemployed and Unappreciated
Dear Unemployed,
The first thing you need to do if you’re looking for a summer position any place is to get a jumpstart on it.
When it comes to finding a summer job, you’re going to have a lot of competition out there.
The early bird gets the worm right? The qualified…yet unemployed early bird.
So anyway, start looking for a job immediately. Some places to look are Craigslist, Indeed.com, or SnagAJob.com.
The best way to find a job though is to get off your lazy butt and take a walk down a strip mall and hit up every single store there.
Odds are, someone will be looking for a little help during the summer.
Your best option is to aim for places that have their busiest seasons during the summertime. These places are always going to need extra hands when they’re busy.
Be sure to look professional and act like a polite human being when you are asking for an application. First impressions are everything.
So, act like you are going on a job interview even when you are trying to just get an application. It doesn’t matter if you are just applying for a grocery store, you should look your best.
And if they do not look busy, be sure to ask to talk to a manager on duty. That way, you can introduce yourself and maybe get a foot in the door.
Good luck and remember, always listen to Lauren!
