Dear Lauren,

I want to take my girlfriend out on a nice date for Valentine’s Day. But I’m poor…what can I do for her that won’t make me look like a cheapskate?

Sincerely,

Broke and In Love

Dear Broke and In Love,

Screen shot 2014-02-12 at 6.03.02 PMWhile it may seem like Valentine’s Day is an all you can spend fest, it really isn’t. The thing that most people misinterpret about Valentine’s Day is that in order to show their love, they have to spend a huge amount of money.

But your girlfriend is still going to love you even if you don’t buy her a four foot teddy bear and a huge box of Godiva chocolates.
What you really need to do that will make your girlfriend show that you care without breaking the bank, is to set up and good romantic date night with her. Even something as simple as having a movie night and snuggling up on the couch with a pizza by candlelight will show that you are thinking about her.

All girls should like pizza and movies. If they don’t, you are probably dating the wrong person and you should dump her right away.
If your girlfriend really loves you, she will appreciate any effort you put in to your Valentine’s Day gift. Make a nice picture frame and put some cutesy picture in it and give that to her. Or do some macaroni art. Ladies love macaroni art. Again if they don’t, then you should once again dump her.

Good luck on your Valentine’s Day quest and just remember, as long as you don’t forget to do at least something for her, she will love it.
And if she doesn’t, just find someone who will appreciate your lackluster attempts.
Good luck and remember to listen to Lauren!
