Last week, Kyle Jenner reached out to her 223 million Instagram followers, asking for prayers for a makeup artist, Samuel Rauda, while sharing a GoFundMe link. Samuel Rauda was in an accident and underwent major surgery, according to CNN. Kylie quickly received a lot of backlash for her Instagram story, seeing as how she could have easily paid the medical bills herself.
Kylie’s estimated net worth is $700 million. There is no doubt that Kylie has a lot of money and could have paid the medical bills for the makeup artist if she really wanted to. Instead, she chose to share that link with her followers who are just regular people.
I feel like the intent behind her Instagram story was nice, but it just gave off the wrong impression. If Kylie truly cared, she would have paid his bills right away with no hesitation.
It was also reported that in the early stages of the GoFundMe, Kylie had only donated $5,000. To the average person, this is obviously a lot of money, but when you look at how much Kylie makes per day, this is pocket change.
I would expect someone like Kylie Jenner to have donated a lot more money to the GoFundMe. It seems that all Samuel is worth to Kylie is $5,000. Maybe I am being a bit harsh on Kylie, but I am truly astonished to learn the little amount of help Kylie offered.
Since having shared the GoFundMe link, the amount of donations have risen. I suppose Kylie is the one to thank for the increase in donations. I still believe that she could have paid all of Samuel’s medical bills, but she simply chose not to.
If I am ever fortunate enough to have money like Kylie does, I would hope that I would show a bit more humanity and compassion. Maybe it is easier said than done, but I feel that celebrities with a lot of money should be able to help a bit more in situations like these. Often they do the bare minimum and everyone praises them for it.
Donating $5,000 was very nice of Kylie, but I still believe that there is more she could have done to help Samuel. The worst part of all of this is that Kylie had the audacity to ask her Instagram followers to help donate money to the GoFundMe, as if she could not pay the bill herself. At the end of the day, I am sure that any money donated to help pay Samuel’s medical bills was greatly appreciated.
