After going 1-2 last week, the Cougars looked to comeback with a couple of wins against some conference opponents. The first of which being Robert Morris University.
Tuesday, January 31
SXU faced off in its first CCAC conference opener. With it being an away game SXU had the slight disadvantage, but SXU is a good enough team to overcome the odds. Well, usually SXU is good enough to overcome the odds, but tonight they were unable to as they lost to RMU 3 sets to none (25-19, 26-14, 25-19 respectively). The 2nd set was the decisive factor as SXU had the chance to tie up the game 1 set a piece and regain their momentum, but RMU rallied late to take the set, retain the momentum, and eventually win the game. Despite the loss, senior Sean Barry had an impressive 9 kills and 7 digs stat line.
Friday, February 3
SXU continued the week by facing up against Mount Mercy University. After sustaining their second straight loss, SXU look to comeback with a vengeful win. SXU was able do this on their home court no less too. The Cougars took the game 3 sets to MMU’s 1. Senior Sean Barry again came out to play totaling 13 impressive kills.
SXU looks to carry their momentum into another win this coming Tuesday, as they face up against conference rival Saint Ambrose University.
Track & Field
The Women and Men’s track team competed in the Olivet Nazarene Invite this past Saturday, February 4. As a team, SXU didn’t place, but there were some notable performances. Junior Ellie Willging finished the Women’s 3000 1st with a time of 10:10.61. Sophomore Alex Lambros also had an impressive outing, finishing 3rd place in the women’s triple jump, jumping 10.63 meters. Despite the team performance, SXU should be nothing short of proud of some of the key individual’s performances at the meet.
Both teams look to compete in the North Central College meet this upcoming Friday, February 10.
For a recap of that event and many others, keep it locked here at the Xavierite.
