Volleyball
Tues, November 8th
It was a big night for the Cougars as they competed in the first round of the CCAC tournament. Finishing 4th in their conference, SXU hosted a match against Judson University in which they won 3 sets to Judson’s none. The sets were tight (32-30, 25-23, 25-20 respectively), but the stars came and rose to the occasion. Sophomore and two-time CCAC attacker of the week Helena Atton had another big night as she mustered up 17 kills and 6 blocks.
Thurs, November 11th
Their second matchup in the CCAC tournament saw the 4th seeded Cougars host a match against the 8th seeded Indiana University South-Bend. Despite the home court advantage, SXU came up short and, thus, ended their season. IUSB took the game 3 sets to SXU’s none.
Although they ended their season in heartache and defeat, the Cougars have a lot to be proud of this season. The Cougars finished at the top of the CCAC North Division. Plus, with all the young talent they have on the team, the women’s volleyball team has a lot to look forward to for the future.
Basketball
The Women’s Basketball team started off their season with a dominant win against William Penn University but can they continue this dominance against Davenport University? Of course, they can as they not only go on to win the game, but win it in a 93-72 blowout. Junior center Brittany Collins had a dominant night as she posted a stat line of 26 points, 14 rebounds, and 4 steals a big night for her and the team. The team return to action this coming Wednesday as they face up against Trinity International University.
Men
Tues, November 8th
Moving on to the Men’s basketball team, they faced up against Huntingtin University in an away game. Unfortunately, it was a losing effort as the Cougars fell to Huntington 88-73. Despite the loss, junior Quinn Niego had a good night as he finished 24 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Thurs, November 11th
The men returned to action in an away game against Goshen college. Losers of 2 straight, the Cougars looked to return to prominence with a big win. Unfortunately, this was not the case as SXU lost 108-79. Junior forward Niko Cahue had 27 points and 7 rebounds. Now standing at 1-3, the men’s basketball team would like a win to get them back on track. They return to action against Trinity International University this coming Wednesday.
For a recap of that game and many others keep it locked here at the Xavierite.
