Julie Willging will not stop until she’s at the very top of the conference for women’s’ cross country, and at the rate she’s going she may be closer then we think. After leading her team to 4th place finish in the most recent cross country tournament, and finishing number 1 out of 200 other runners, Willging has won the CCAC runner of the week for the 3rd straight time. Oh, I forgot to mention, in that tournament Willging broke the school record for the 5k finish, finishing it in a mind boggling 17 minutes and 48 seconds. What ultimately makes Willging so great is not only her individual performance, but her performance as a team leader as well. Willging willed her team to a 4th place finish out of 25 other teams, willing the team to a Cougar program best team time of 1:34.23. Time in and time out Willging has consistently proven why she deserves this award. The women’s cross country team competes in the CCAC Cross Country Championship on Saturday, November 5th. Seeing as though championship tournament, some tough competition and some A games are to be expected, but if Willging wants to cement her place as one of the top runners in our conference, then she’ll need to continue to deliver individually and deliver as a team leader.
