In a state plagued by corruption, Illinois needs more politicians like Willie Wilson

The city of Chicago, and the state of Illinois, are known for their corruption. Last year, an annual report published by UIC, ranked Illinois as the second most corrupt state with Chicago ranked as the most corrupt city in the nation.

In 2012, the National Broadcasting Company of Chicago published a list of the twelve most corrupt Illinois politicians.

William Hale Thompson, former mayor of Chicago was ranked #1. In 1993 he was declared to be the worst mayor in American history for his relationship with Al Capone.

December 11th, 2011, former governor of Illinois Rod Blagojevich, was arrested on 18 felony counts of corruption, including lying to the FBI and conspiracy to commit bribery by attempting to sell former president Obama’s vacant Senate seat.

In 2019, Alderman Ed Burke (14th Ward) was indicted on 14 counts of racketeering, bribery, and extortion.

In October of 2015, a report was released by Cook County Inspector General Patrick Blanchard, that current Illinois governor and billionaire J.B. Pritzker removed five toilets from one of his mansions.

The purpose of doing so? To declare the home inhabitable and avoid paying $331,000 in property taxes.

Who pays for that $331,000 in tax money instead? You do. I do. Your friends do. Your family does. Illinois taxpayers like yourself pay instead.

This year, former Speaker of the House Michael Madigan was indicted on twenty two counts of federal racketeering.

While the state of Illinois and the city of Chicago have been plagued by corrupt politicians for decades, one local politician is making a difference here at home.

A self-made millionaire, born the son of a sharecropper, Willie Wilson has earned his wealth by obtaining ownership of McDonald’s franchises and a plastic glove distribution company.

With the money he has earned, he has helped Chicago residents pay their property tax bills, donated 30 million masks to local hospitals, Cook County Jail, the FOP (Fraternal Order of Police) and to the city.

He’s also donated to families who lost their jobs due to the Covid-19 pandemic and to over 1,000 churches.

March 17th, Wilson provided Chicagoans with $200,000 in free gas, providing free $50 gas cards to everyone that morning till the funds ran out.

This Thursday, March 24th, Wilson plans to hold another free gas giveaway, providing Chicagoans with $1 million worth of free gas.

Robbie McGlory of Berwyn described Wilson as generous and said he pumped her gas for her last Thursday.

While the wealthiest U.S. politician removes toilets from his mansion to avoid paying property taxes, Willie Wilson is giving back to the community and is using his wealth to address inequities in Chicago.

Willie Wilson is the kind of politician Chicagoans and Illinoisans deserve.

Rather than taking advantage of voters’ trust and committing acts of corruption, politicians should be giving back to the community and doing whatever they can to help local citizens.
