Women’s CC
Last Friday, the St. Xavier Women’s CC team participated in the Illinois Intercollegiate Meet at Olivet Nazarene University. Out of the nine schools that participated, the Cougars came in at number seven.
Leading the way for the Cougars was sophomore Nicole Watkins who finished in 17th place. Her 19:34.7 pace was impressive considering the winter-like weather conditions the runners had to deal with.
Right behind her was junior Ann Kolker with a final time of 19:51. It appears that Watkins and Kolker are picking up some of the slack that the injuries of seniors Amanda Magee and Ali Proffitt have caused.
Rounding out the rest of the top three Cougar cross country runners was freshman Alondra Deflin who placed 38th with a time of 20:31.5.
The Women’s CC team will have a week off before they take on the College of DuPage Invite at St. James Park on Sept. 26.
Men’s CC
Ever feel like you are having a case of Déjà vu? Well, even if you have not, the St. Xavier Men’s CC team definitely felt like they were last Friday night.
Just as they did back on Aug. 29, only three runners competed in the Illinois Intercollegiate Meet.
Janis Pastars, Victor Solis, and Kyle Counter represented St. Xavier to the absolute best of their abilities.
Putting in another impressive top ten finish, Pastars’ time of 25:39.3 gave him the best individual finish of the other two Cougar runners.
Only two seconds separated Solis and Counter as they placed 65th and 66th. Solis had a time of 27:52.8 and Counter’s was 27:54.6.
Just like the women’s team, the men will be competing again in two weeks at the College of DuPage Invite on Sept. 26.
