The indomitable music festival Coachella has returned to the Californian desert for two weekends: April 12–14 and April 19–21.
While the second weekend is still up in the air, the first three days have already given lots of exciting moments for attendees and couch spectators alike. In anticipation of what’s to come for Week 2, here are the most memorable parts of the first weekend.
Day 1: “Video Games”/”ocean eyes” Live Duets
Lana Del Rey, the Friday headliner, made waves from the moment she arrived in the Valley.
The baroque pop superstar made her way to the Coachella stage early atop a motorcycle, forming a quintessentially Lana image from the get-go.
The climax of her set came when Billie Eilish appeared onstage to join her, to the audience’s shock and immense joy. Together, they sang each of their earliest hits as live duets: Lana Del Rey’s debut single, “Video Games,” and “ocean eyes” off of Eilish’s debut EP.
Though somewhat of a surprising pair, their voices blended well together and left each attendee with a one-of-a-kind experience.
Day 2: Olivia Rodrigo Joins No Doubt
The highly anticipated reunion of the legendary musical group No Doubt already promised an unforgettable performance, but an additional member left fans in awe.
Frontwoman Gwen Stefani astounded audiences when, during their set, she seemed to scream the name “Olivia Rodrigo” as a non-sequitur… until Rodrigo herself ran onto the stage dressed in Stefani’s iconic 90s style to join them for a song.
The “GUTS” superstar wore a tank top proudly displaying a message that resonated with every concertgoer present: “I HEART ND.”
Day 3: Reneé Rapp Brings Out Ke$ha
Teased on X a few hours in advance, Ke$ha joined Reneé Rapp for her debut Coachella set.
The duo performed the former’s hit song “TiK ToK” with one notable change: the opening line was adjusted in light of the P. Diddy sex trafficking allegations from “feeling like P. Diddy” to “f— P. Diddy.”
One might assume an artist would avoid referencing the rapper at all, but Ke$ha and Rapp opted to publicly disparage the man to the raucous applause of everyone in attendance.
Honorable Mention: Barry Keoghan Films a Sabrina Carpenter Fancam
Following the release of her newest single “Espresso,” Sabrina Carpenter brought the house down on Day 1, earning cheers from the audience and special attention from her alleged Beau, Barry Keoghan.
Attendees quickly noted Keoghan filming Carpenter’s performance, inspiring the joke that Keoghan had actually been recording a “fancam” of the singer.
With so many prominent moments already on the books, fans can only look forward to more music and memories next weekend.
