El Conejo Malo, also known as Bad Bunny, released his third album of the year on November 27, 2020. The day after Thanksgiving, which left fans feeling extra grateful for what the reggaetón sensation has gifted his fans with ever since 2020 started. He has always been known for releasing projects on holidays and special occasions. “EL ÚLTIMO TOUR DEL MUNDO” translates to “The Last Tour of the World,” contains 16 songs, and is the complete opposite of Bad Bunny’s past projects. “EL ÚLTIMO TOUR DEL MUNDO ” features artists such as, ROSALIA, Jhay Cortez, and ABRA. Bad Bunny is beginning a new era within his image and sound.
Bad Bunny left fans in angst when he subtly mentioned retirement in the song “<3” on his Sophomore album “YHLQMDLG.” Fans have been outraged and filled with anxiety hoping the reggaeton sensation is joking about retirement. Some believe Bad Bunny is retiring his usual “Trap Bunny” persona, and is using retirement as a symbolic metaphor to keep fans on the edge of their seats. He has messed with fans’ emotions by promoting his current album and future tour as the “very last.” The real question here is, is it all for show and hype? Or is the Conejo Malo really done with music?
“EL ÚLTIMO TOUR DEL MUNDO” takes you on a journey into Bad Bunny’s new sound and vibe. It contains more soothing, and chilled out songs that are unfamiliar to Bad Bunny’s usual fast paced party hits. This album is perfect for sitting back and enjoying a nice night in. He hinted at the vibe of this album through the release of “DAKITI,” featuring Jhay Cortez that landed at number one. It was released in October, which gave fans a couple of weeks to prepare what El Conejo Malo had in store for them. He is endlessly proving to his fans and himself that he has the ability and comfortability to switch up his sound whenever he wants. In the end, he is fully aware everyone will eat up whatever he releases.
It starts off with the song “EL MUNDO ES MIO,” which translates to “The World is Mine.” It begins with a fifty second long intro in which it slowly gravitates towards him bashing on his haters and those who don’t believe in him. He humbly flaunted off his success, and put his haters in their place. He expressed this in a calm and slick manner which embodied what was next to come throughout the duration of the rest of the album. “BOOKER T” has a similar vibe to “EL MUNDO ES MIO ” as they convey similar messages. Although “BOOKER T” takes a quite opposite direction. He taunts other artists and spills the raw truth of the music industry. He emphasizes he is the best and that he is at his “peak.” Which automatically counteracts his symbolic metaphor of his “retirement.” Why would a highly successful artist retire during their “peak?”
Bad Bunny has made an immediate switch in sound and maintains a rock aesthetic in the songs such as “MALDITA POBREZA,” which means “Damned Poverty,” and in “YO VISTO ASI,” which means “I Dress Like This.” He took a turn from the chilled out, and relaxed songs and came in full force with rock and guitar riffs. Bad Bunny began experimenting with rock sound in his last album “YHLQMDLG,” in the song “Hablamos Mañana.” He took a nostalgic turn in “MALDITA POBREZA” and reminded listeners that financial struggles are a central aspect in life, and most people can relate to them. He portrays a man not being able to buy his girlfriend anything she desires, due to his financial hardships. He revisited a nostalgic feeling he may have endured before fame, and what some may relate to today. In “YO VISTO ASI” is central to what Bad Bunny is all about. He could care less what anyone thinks of him and makes his motto known throughout the song.
Another turning point surfaced, and are we really surprised? The song “TRELLAS,” which means “Stars,” is an emotional love song that no one was really expecting. Bad Bunny has made his emotional soft side known to his fans, but not in the way he expressed it in this song. Once again he brought in the guitars, and constant hymns of harmonization that touched the hearts and souls of listeners.
He came in with bubblegum pop and alternative vibes in “SORRY PAPI” and “ANTES QUE SE ACABE.” Again, Bad Bunny hinted his attraction to this sound in the song “Solia,” in his previous album “YHLQMDLG.” He is simply enjoying the ride and is not afraid of trying out new things during his creative process. He clearly showed his fans what he was hinting towards in his previous projects but did not allow that sound to dominate just yet, until now.
This is just the beginning of what Bad Bunny has to offer to the world. He said it himself, he is in the middle of his peak. He is well aware that he is only beginning to explore new sounds and is continuing giving fans what they desire and love. Fans are endlessly supporting him and Bad Bunny is here for it.
