After several months of interviewing Saint Xavier’s Graham School of Management has finally found their new dean. Doctor Muhammed Chishty, current interim dean for the business school, has faithfully served as the Graham School’s acting dean since July 1st. He now makes way for, Doctor Mark S. Rossenbaum, who will take the position of permanent dean on July 6, 2020.
Doctor Rossenbaum comes from the University of South Carolina located in Columbia, South Carolina. The position of Dean for the Graham School is no simple endeavor and requires several qualifications. Rossenbaum, has an extensive resume, and is more than fit for the role as dean. At South Carolina, Rossenbaum held titles as a professor, as well as Department Chair for the university’s department of Retailing. Before the University of South Carolina, Rossenaum also worked at Northern Illinois University where he was the Kohl’s Professor of Retailing.
Rossenbaum holds a B.S. in finance from Indiana University, an MBA in marketing from the University of Illinois at Chicago, an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies/International Business from New York University, an M.S. in operations management from San Diego State University, and a Ph.D. in marketing from Arizona State University.
His career in education also extends past the borders of the United States of America. When asked of his background Chishty replied:
“He is a very well-traveled scholar. He has three Fulbright scholarships. He has taught in Uzbekistan, Cambodia, and Nepal.”
The awards that he has earned are the Fullbright Award in Combodia in 2009, Senior Fullbright Award in Nepal in 2015, and most recently the Fullbright Specialist Award in the country of Uzbekistan in 2019.
“He brings a broad international background to the Graham School.”
Rossenbaum has taught courses in other countries such as Europe and Asia. Some worth mentioning are Bhutan, Bosnia, Romania, and Vietnam just to name a few.
Rossenbaum was chosen out of four candidates in the running for the new dean of the Graham School of Management. In the second and third week of September, these four finalists came to Saint Xavier for campus interviews. hey met with faculty and students alike. Evaluations from the members of the Saint Xavier community were gathered, and used to assess each and every candidate. In early October a few weeks later the decision to have Rossenbaum was finally reached.
It is believed at the Graham School of Management that Rossenbaum’s arrival on July 6 will not only be beneficial for Saint Xavier, but for the student body in attendance as well. When asked about what Rossenbaum would bring to Saint Xavier Chishty said:
“He has done a lot of work with local companies in the Chicago area so I will believe he will use those contacts to raise money for the Graham School of Management and also create potential internship opportunities for our students.”
As can be seen the community at Saint Xavier look to the future with hope and excitement for the arrival of Rossenbaum and his taking the helm at the Graham School of Management.
“He is an experienced individual who comes with a very interesting background and I think that we are all looking forward to working with him.”
