“Friends” Thanksgiving episodes to watch this November, ranked

As the month of November is upon us, it’s now time to watch (or re-watch for the hundredth time) the Thanksgiving episodes of “Friends.” Wondering where to watch? If you don’t have HBO max, you can watch your favorite episodes on TBS and Nick at Nite. Now for your favorite “Friends” Thanksgiving episodes, ranked, to watch this month.

1.“The One With the Football” Season 3, Episode 9

“The one with the football” is one of my favorite “Friends” episodes of all time.As every avid “Friends” watcher knows, Monica and Ross are very competitive, but this episode is nothing short of hilarious as we see their sibling rivalry completely unfold during a game of “touch” football. Rachel is disappointed and shocked when picked last. Phoebe lifts up her shirt to distract Chandler from the ball. Chandler and Joey fight over a beautiful Dutch woman named Margha, (who happens to reject both of them). Monica and Ross play dirty to win the “Geller Cup,” and an ugly troll doll is attached to a piece of wood.

2.  “The One Where Ross Got High” Season 6, Episode 9

The year of 1999, Monica and Chandler celebrated their first Thanksgiving together as a couple. Unfortunately, the Geller parents don’t like Chandler, so Monica never told them they were a couple. The plot revolves around Judy and Jack’s dislike for Chandler, and the mysterious reason why, is revealed after dinner. Although, my favorite part of the episode is the infamous subplot about Rachel’s English Trifle. Phoebe romanticizes about Jack Geller while demonstrating his disgusting habits, and Monica and Ross tattle on one another.

3. “The One Where Underdog Gets Away” Season 1, Episode 9

The first Thanksgiving episode of Friends is undoubtedly a classic and one of my favorites. Joey’s ad for the city health clinic, warning about VD(Venereal Disease), is put up across the city. Ross, Carol, and Susan’s baby kicked as Ross sang. After a small argument (caused by getting locked out of the apartment), the friends realize how lucky they are to have one another and that friendship is more important than anything else. The perfect ending? Chandler serves Thanksgiving dinner as they share grilled cheese sandwiches.

4. “The One With the Late Thanksgiving” Season 10, Episode 8

The last Thanksgiving episode is one of my favorites because it’s the first Thanksgiving that Chandler not only resents the holiday, but attempts to help Monica make dinner by preparing the cranberry sauce. He cares so much about the cranberry sauce and his contribution to the holiday he once hated. Watching Rachel, Joey, Ross, and Phoebe try to figure out what to say to Monica and Chandler to excuse why they were late to dinner is sure to make anyone laugh. And my favorite part? When Monica and Chandler receive a phone call from the adoption agency. And of course, what’s better than floating heads?

5. “The One With Chandler in a Box” Season 4, Episode 8

This particular episode begins on a negative note, following Chandler kissing Joey’s girlfriend. However, the conflict allows for a wholesome resolution. While Chandler’s in the box, he makes several silly jokes, and then, as the episode progresses, seeing Joey and Chandler reunite as Joey forgave him was not only wholesome, but reminds us to be thankful for the friendships we have.

6.  “The One With All the Thanksgivings” Season 5, Episode 8

What is the funniest part of this episode? When Joey tries to scare everyone with a turkey on his head? When Phoebe’s arm falls off while working as a nurse during the Civil War and says “Oh no”? Or when Monica ends up embarrassing herself, pretending everything is sexy, and then accidently cuts off Chandler’s toe? This episode is arguably one of the best, if the fat shaming wasn’t included.

7. “The One With the Rumor” Season 8, Episode 9

The 2001 Thanksgiving episode is famous for its guest star, Brad Pitt. The “I hate Rachel Green club” is brought up at dinner, and from there, they retell their humiliating high school past. Rachel finds Will incredibly attractive. Rachel finds out that Ross and Will spread a rumor that she had a penis and vagina. The rumor that Ross made out with the school librarian is found out to be true. Phoebe forms a crush on Will. Monica, Ross, Rachel, and Will make fun of one another for their high school past. Not my favorite, because it’s not as funny as other episodes, but it does still consistently provide laugh-worthy jokes.

8.  “The One Where Chandler Doesn’t Like Dogs” Season 7, Episode 8

As someone who loves dogs, I can’t say I enjoyed seeing Chandler dislike a sweet and beautiful dog. As the episode continues though, I enjoyed seeing Chandler grow and putting aside his dislike for dogs by trying to bring Clunkers back to the apartment for dinner. Watching Ross, going from arrogant to suffering, try to name all the fifty-states is my favorite part of the episode.

9.  “The One With the List” Season 2, Episode 8

The second Thanksgiving episode of Friends is still worth watching, but ranked second to last because of the list. When the boys create a list with Rachel’s negative qualities, such as, “she’s too into her looks” and “she has chubby ankles”, and worst of all “just a waitress” it’s nothing short of degrading. No one is perfect, but no one deserves to have a list made with their negative qualities, or for them to be looked down upon because of their job. All jobs are of equal importance and value, whether the position is a cashier, or a doctor. Rachel deserved to be treated so much better than that. However, the episode is still worth watching because of the sub-plot revolving around Monica’s new job to create Thanksgiving recipes using Mockolate, which is “what evil must taste like” according to Phoebe.

10.  “The One With Rachel’s Other Sister” Season 9, Episode 8

While ranked last, this Friends Thanksgiving had several hilarious moments. My favorite? When Joey is watching the Thanksgiving day parade and sees the “Days of Our Lives” float. I ranked this episode last though because of the morbidity surrounding the plot. However, Thanksgiving wouldn’t be complete without watching this episode at least once.
